It is a time of freedom and fear, of Gaia and of borders, of many paths and the widening of a universal toll road, emptying country and swelling cities, of the public bought into privacy and the privacy of the public sold into invisible data banks and knowing algorithms. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.

These are the times when maps fade and direction is lost. Forwards is backwards now, so we glance sideways at the strange lands through which we are all passing, knowing for certain only that our destination has disappeared. We are unready to meet these times, but we proceed nonetheless, adapting as we wander, reshaping the Earth with every tread.

Behind us we have left the old times, the standard times, the high times. Welcome to the irregular times.

Direct support for candidates to Dump Bush!
Saturday, September 13, 2003

Dean Team LeaderHere at Irregular Times, we do a lot of talking about politics. However, we're not big fans of the sit-back-and-gripe-but-do-nothing brand of American citizenship. No, for every article they write, our contributors are out there as active members of their local political communities, organizing events, giving lectures, serving on committees, marching in protest, working with candidates to help their campaigns.

In the current political climate, we see that action is the most irregular thing of all.

Starting with the 2004 election campaigns, we're building new ways to help our readers get irregularly active too. This was the motivation behind the launch of the Irregular Goods site, where we offer the largest collection of progressive political bumperstickers available anywhere on the Internet. 25% percent of our profits from Irregular Goods go to humanitarian charities, and another 25% of those profits go to progressive political causes. In the three months that Irregular Goods has been up and running, we've already made donations to OxFam, the Dean for America campaign, and the Cayuga County Democratic Party. As individuals, we've made even more donations. We are, for one thing, proud card-carrying members of the ACLU.

We want to help link our readers to the political action out there too, and so, starting today, we're building in links through the Irregular Times web site that enable our readers to give their support to the candidates of their choice.

We've noticed, both through written comments and through orders at the Irregular Goods site, that our readers overwhelmingly support the candidacy of Howard Dean for the Democratic presidential nomination. So, we're starting with Dean, offering you our own site through which you can support Howard Dean's grassroots campaign. Check in regularly to catch up-to-date news, information, activism opportunities, and our own channel for financial contributions.

For those of our readers who support other opponents of George W. Bush, hang in there! We're in the process of developing similar resources for those candidates as well. In the end, we're so disgusted with the dismal record of miserable failures from the Bush Administration that we're inclined to vote for Anyone But Bush in 2004!
