Unity08 American Agenda Website Sells 99 cent Domain Names

Unity08 is a registered corporation which will nominate its own candidates for president and vice president a year from now, in July of 2008. At least that’s what it says it’s going to do. Will its claims match reality? No one can be sure, but we can check Unity08’s record of delivering on promises for a pretty good indication.

In the fall of 2006, Unity08 declared that a new website called American Agenda (at the web address of americanagenda08.com) would be publicly released in December of 2006 or January of 2007 in order to permit the American people to help draft a Unity08 platform.

What’s actually happened? Back in February, the promised website was hawking janitorial supplies. By March, americanagenda08.com had moved on to selling lawsuits about peanut butter. Halfway through April, Unity08’s American Agenda website is promoting online college degrees. Halfway through May, Unity08 had returned to peanut butter lawsuits and added claims about a “natural remedy” for “painful chronic fatigue.” And now, halfway through June, the American Agenda website offers visitors a 99 cent special on domain names.

I suppose that janitorial supplies, peanut butter lawsuits, online college degrees, natural remedies for chronic fatigue syndrome and 99 cent domain names could be construed as part of an American Agenda, but I don’t think these five platform planks turn up on most Americans’ list of priorities.

But wait… there’s more! Did you know that Unity08 founder Douglas L. Bailey has made an additional promise? Not only will Unity08 launch its American Agenda website in December of 2006 or January of 2007 (whoopsie), but now there will be another shiny website, too! On February 14, 2007, Bailey promised the following in response to a question he actually wrote to himself:

Question: You mentioned Convention Hall? What is that?

Answer: This Spring we will give every Delegate a passcode to enter Convention Hall online, where they will participate in delegate polls, set up their own issue or candidate caucuses, and view the materials of candidates or draft movements seeking their support.

Now, technically, it’s still spring. Summer doesn’t begin until June 21, 2007. There are six days left. Do you think Bailey and Unity08 will pull it off? My guess based on Unity08.com past history is that they won’t. It’s par for the course for this fake-populist outfit to make grand promises when asking for your money, promises they just don’t keep.

When this outfit’s telemarketers give you a phone call asking for money and making glorious promises, ask them what happened to the glories promised not so long ago.

I was listening to the news coming out of Palestine today about the Gaza civil war. Some mention was made of the Unity Government, which is what they were calling the Palestinian government before today’s emergency declaration.

Then it struck me, that’s the premise behind the Unity 08. A president from one party and a vice president from the other party is supposed to be the answer to stopping political disagreements.

Well, Palestine’s Unity Government had a President from Fatah party and a prime minister from Hamas. In case anyone is keeping track, Palestine just divided itself into two separate countries, West Bank ruled by the elected Fatah government, and Gaza ruled by Hamas and their military coup.

So much for the Unity premise.

Looks like http://www.americanagenda08.com no longer sells anything. It forwards to http://www.unity08.com.

Yep. But still no American Agenda website on which people can draft a platform.
