Congressmen Demand Special Prosecutor. Attorney General Yawns.

News flash! Representatives John Conyers, Jerry Nadler and William Delahunt have written a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey asking very sternly for Mukasey to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the American rendition of Canadian citizen Maher Arar to Syria, where he was tortured under interrogation.

Anonymous sources have informed Irregular Times that Attorney General Mukasey plans to have the letter shredded into fine bits to sprinkle on his breakfast cereal.

Without an independent counsel law, under which Mukasey would have had to start at least a preliminary investigation, and with impeachment taken off the table, what else do you expect a Bush administration toady to do?

  • Remember how the Democrats went along with the Republicans in the 1990s to allow the independent counsel’s position to disappear? Another sour legacy of the Clintons.

  • Tom

Yeah, the Democrats – the spineless bunch of turncoats that they are – generally cave in to anything Bush wants these days. Are we sure they aren’t being blackmailed into it? Why else would they let Bush get away with all this shit?
We certainly have the worst government (oh maybe a notch above Robert Mugabe’s) calling itself a democracy!
