Book Burners for Sarah Palin

As long as there have been books, there have been people who hate books, people who fear books. These people have always described themselves as the guardians of morality as they have destroyed huge portions of the record of human knowledge.

They’ve been afraid that if people read books, they will start to think for themselves. They’re afraid that if people think for themselves, they will become less than morally pure. So, for the sake of purity, they have sought to control human minds by controlling the books that they read.

Sarah Palin has added herself to the book burners of history. Trying to keep books she thought were morally impure out of the Wasilla library, she threatened to kick out the librarian of her village because the librarian refused to pull books off the shelves of the library just because Sarah Palin did not approve of them.

Sarah Palin’s moral values are the moral values of book burning – censorship with the aim of establishing cultural and political power. The censorship of books is the censorship of ideas. To tell someone what books they can read is to tell them what they can know and what they can think.

These are not the values of the United States of America. In the USA we have a Constitution that guarantees us liberty, including freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Sarah Palin doesn’t seem to care about those freedoms.

Do you care about those freedoms? If you do, it is your responsibility to become active in their defense, and make sure that the book burning values of Sarah Palin never reach the White House.

  1. Jon says:

What were the books that Palin was trying to prevent for going into the library and is it fair to call her a book burner, because this sounds alot like a scare tactic.

  2. Jon says:

By the way we can’t allow religious books in school.

  3. Jim says:

No, we haven’t been misinformed. That snopes article refers to a particular faked list of books Sarah Palin drew up. That list is obviously bogus. It is NOT bogus that Sarah Palin repeatedly asked the librarian if she would ban books from the library.

Jon, you’re just plain wrong. There are lots of religious books in public school libraries across the country. See, for example, the Naples High School library catalog. Look up “Bible.” It is a public school in Collier County, Florida.

I can come up with hundreds of more examples if you would like, Jon. Would you like me to do that for you?

I’m sorry I was just being sarcastic, and are we still going on with the conspiricy theory. Show me the evidence Jim, evidence not seculation or he said she said, show me something that would hold up in court, I would like to know the truth as a concerned voter.

  5. Jim says:

Thanks for retracting your obviously incorrect statement.

This isn’t a court. We’ve more than once linked to multiple news reports citing conversations with more than one individual, and Sarah Palin has herself acknowledged questioning the librarian about banning books. Search for “librarian” in the upper right hand corner of this website to find the relevant articles yourself.

  6. Jim says:

As for what books Sarah Palin wanted banned, I sure would like to know but despite running for Vice President Sarah Palin is being kept secluded from any press conferences where someone might ask her that question.
