What is the Wasilla Assemblies of God Trying to Hide for Palin?

The Wasilla Assembly of God was Sarah Palin’s main church for decades. It’s the church that she grew up in, and she still visits the church several times a year, even though she’s busy as Governor.

You’ll all remember how much scrutiny was given to Barack Obama’s church was given? You remember the constant coverage of Jeremiah Wright, week after week after week? Well, Barack Obama never said that his church had revealed to him through magical acts of prophecy a plan for his home state, the USA and the world.

irregular times writerSarah Palin has said that about the Wasilla Assembly of God. Sarah Palin has even said that it was the prayers of a visiting preacher to the church, Thomas Muthee, that made her Governor of Alaska. Sarah Palin was caught, on video tape, making a pledge to use her power as Governor of Alaska to work with the Wasilla Assembly of God church to enact the will of God.

Sarah Palin’s political vision for Alaska and for the entire USA seems to be based upon the religious beliefs preached at the Wasilla Assembly of God church. Yet, the Wasilla Assembly of God church is receiving nowhere near the scrutiny that Barack Obama’s church received.

If we can’t count on the journalists to do their jobs, then we’ll have to make up for some of that deficit of investigation ourselves. The following are the sermons from 2005, when Sarah Palin was in weekly attendance at the Wasilla Assembly of God church, that were on the church’s web site right up until the time when Sarah Palin’s candidacy for the Vice President was announced.

That’s a lot of sermons, but if you go to the Wasilla Assembly of God web site now, all these sermons are gone. They’ve been erased. Even the page they were listed on is gone. They were taken offline right after Sarah Palin’s vice presidential campaign was announced.

Also erased from the Wasilla Assembly of God site is any mention of Thomas Muthee. The following message was there as recently as August 25th:

Bishop Thomas Muthee from Kenya
We were honored to have Bishop Thomas Muthee from Kenya, Africa with us. He has planted and oversees over 400 churches, and has a powerful ministry from God. You are encouraged to listen and watch these special messages from him.”

Now, that message is gone. It’s erased – even though Thomas Muthee is coming to the Wasilla Assembly of God church this weekend for a series of special sermons.

Why is the Wasilla Assembly of God trying to cover up the sermons that Thomas Muthee gave? We know, thanks to that video of Sarah Palin from June 8, 2008, that she was in close contact with Muthee in 2005.

One thing they may be trying to cover up is Thomas Muthee’s history as a witch hunter. Muthee gained political power in Kenya by accusing women of being witches, and stirring up popular fury against the supposed witchcraft. That’s a dangerous game. People have been burning accused witches in Kenya recently.

Is that what the Wasilla Assemblies of God is trying to cover up for Sarah Palin, or is it something else? Something even worse?

Given that Sarah Palin has said that she’ll be working with a plan from God revealed to her at the Wasilla Assembly of God, and given that she believes that it was Thomas Muthee who anointed her as Governor, I would think that the American public would want to know.

Yet, not one American newspaper, not one TV news team, not one news magazine is on the job. No journalists in the USA have written about the Muthee sermon coverup. So far, the story of Thomas Muthee has been covered by Tages Anzeiger, a German language newspaper in Switzerland.

All that newspaper reports (you’ll have to excuse the rough translation – I’ve never studied German) on the story is the following: “The preacher Thomas Muthee arose several times in Palin’s church: Muthee claims to have solved the social problems in a Kenyan village – by witch hunting.”

That’s it. Don’t we need to know more?

Ya know…you seem to be sooooo obsessed with God that you just might need to see someone about that issue….

“God this and church that…they squash and choke….freedoms and liberty…” get real, the Godless in this nation is so small a group that they will never ever be a force to appease. Hell…Obama got that right and is issuing God realted items to the masses to show support. Can we get an Amen to that!

  • Sam, it would be more accurate to say that Sarah Palin is God obsessed, and given that Sarah Palin may soon become President of the United States, with the elderly John McCain not likely to last much longer, I think it’s very important to understand what Sarah Palin’s agenda is all about. You could say that I’m even obsessed about that.

So what about you Sam? Do you think it’s a good thing for a future President of the United States to claim to have been anointed to public office by a man who drives women out of town by calling them witches?

Aren’t you at all curious about why the Assemblies of God quickly deleted all these sermons as soon as Sarah Palin was announced as the Vice Presidential nominee of the GOP?

  • kevin

“Aren’t you at all curious about why the Assemblies of God quickly deleted all these sermons”

Well J, its clear… your post here created so much traffic that you crashed their server and they had to delete the inoffensive speaches in SELF DEFENSE against the vile liberals and their unfounded and VICIOUS attacks.

    hope that helps…

  • Sam

Ya know…let’s get one thing straight…McCain has been on a Campaign schedule for 2 years…pretty rough life, and you people have him on his death bed…you all said the same of Reagan…and of course, were wrong then too…

As for the God issue…The AOG deleted posts on the web site as did Rev Wright and his bunch did…to not harm the canidate with their points of view…so get real there….and second, YES I am comfortable with Palin and her beliefs…beacuse the average religious person will keep tabs on those that are in power and show a hard religious slant. Just like we would see when a secularist slants off the path and begins religious persecution..ie Communits, Socialist, Nazi etc…

So stop cowaring in the corner…your scaring the women and children….

  • So, then, you’re comfortable with witch hunts. You’re comfortable with going into a town and accusing a woman of being a witch and running her out of town.

Okay, Sam. I guess we can see that you would be very comfortable with colonial Salem, Massachusetts.

    I am not.

Kevin, let’s think about this logically. The Wasilla Assembly of God could not have responded to me writing an article about how they’ve deleted sermons by deleting those sermons. Not unless we’ve entered an alternative dimension in which time flows backwards.

  • Sam

Witch Hunts? Are you for fucking real? Do you honestly think Americans are so incredibly stupid? Oh, wait, you do…you are a progressive..the only true SMART people in America….grow up…and I crindge to think you polute your kid’s mind’s with this shit….

A recent report of a violent “witch hunt” in one of the many Kenyan towns where Thomas Muthee has an assembly…

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/21/world/main4114504.shtml?source=RSSattr=World_4114504

    http://www.wofchurchke.org/regions.php

Considering that Kenya, like many places in Africa, is frequently a place where violence is done to people suspected of practicing witchcraft, one would think that the WoFC website would have a statement condemning that sort of thing… but no such condemnation exists on the WoFC site. What can be found on the WoFC is curriculum which includes Spiritual Warfare and Deliverance…

    Sam,

People like Sarah Palin’s exorcist friend Thomas Muthee are the ones polluting the minds of young people with nonsense about witches and demons.

Remeber Sam, with God all things are possible.

If you knew the Bush doctrine you would also know it is God’s will that we make a pre-emptive defensive self-defense attack against your threats and LIES.

    No, I don’t remember that….

She did not say that pastor made her governor. She said his prayer was powerful. He was praying not as a request to God or wish but in the present with certainty.

If you watch the democrat or republican conventions they do the same thing when they introduce someone as the next president or vice president of the USA before the election. All the rallying cries , all the slogans coud be considered as religon if you add God to it.

I do not see what you problem is beside being religionphobic.

I do not agree with their end time interpretation but it does not bother me. All religions and even denominations have different beliefs. Every politician has probably some personal belief that I do not agree with. Their character and the virtues they live by are what is important

The issue with the Obama church was the hatred and the divisiveness in their sermons.

I will listen to some of the sermons on your website. Thanks for the links

Now with the issue of witchcraft in Africa, you need to learn the African culture.

What you are doing now is some kind of witchraft too. You are trying to tell the whole world that there is something wrong with Sarah Palin. You hope to chase her out of town.

    What is the difference ?

  • Billdo

Accusations of being a witch, satanist, heretic etc. etc. have always been popular with Christians. Not only has the Church tortured people to death, they devised some of the most cruel and evil means possible to do it. All based upon a fallacy that they created out of a bunch of ancient stories and metaphors about the sun, astronomy, astrology, and being enlightened by natural entheogenic drugs.

  • Careyrn

Please get your facts straight…..Bishop Muthee prayed for Sarah, he did not “annoint her as Governor. Quite frankly, I find this refreshing and would rather see a politician prayed over, than under a desk in the oval office…..(you know what)…” Witch hunts have not “always been popular with Christians”….geez, read your scripture and not some make-believe nonsense. Praise God that Wasilla Assembly of God is not saying, “God damn America”, but lifting up the Church and all Americans toward it’s renewal and strengthening in Christ. Our doctrines may differ, but our unity is in the Lord, WAY TO GO WASSILLA ASSEMBLY, from your friends at the Free Methodist Church, Beach Lake, NY!!!!!! Wonderful commentary by Soliel10.

  • Mary

I am just here for the first time, and won’t be able to offer much because I won’t have time, but I am just wondering–

For all you skeptics out there who don’t like the language or methods of Bishop Muthee or the others featured in the “Transformations” video:

    http://timesonline.typepad.com/uselections/2008/09/palin-linked-el.html

Have you ever lived in Kenya? In any community such as those described in the video? Visited? Let’s say you are suddenly made mayor (no reference to Palin intended) and you need to clean things up–

How are you going to proceed? Are you going to say to those who believe that prayer affects change,” No thanks, I don’t want any sprt of spiritual support here–I’d like to tackle things on my own, with the strong arm of the law.”

What beef do you have with the notion that prayer just might affect change for the better? What kind of threat does Muthee pose?

Can you argue with the results of the prayer in these areas? Whom did it hurt? Whom did it help?

  • al

Yea who knows! If McCain/Palin is elected, all witches will be abolished and Whoopi Goldberg will be a slave again.

    FRINGE RULES! lol

  • Jin

Mary, think about what you’re suggesting: You’re saying that, in a multi-religious community, non-Christians need to be cleaned up.

THAT is the problem you don’t get.

Who did it hurt? When the mobs formed outside this poor woman’s house, and the police were sent in by Muthee, shooting their guns off, and she was hauled off into jail, and then was sent running out of town in fear of her life, I think Muthee certainly hurt her.

Is that the kind of tactic you favor?

Careyrn, Sarah Palin says herself that Thomas Muthee’s supernatural intercession with God made her Governor.

  • milostea

“non-Christian need to be cleaned up.”

No. The New Testament tells us to spread the Gospel to non-believers. Get your facts straight. Oh, wait. You don’t study the Bible because you are a liberal and know better.

“Is that the kind of tactic you favor?”

Cultures in third world countries are very, very different from America. It does not excuse the act but that is one culture that you liberals should look down with ease.

“Careyrn, Sarah Palin says herself that Thomas Muthee’s supernatural intercession with God made her Governor.”

Amen. The power of prayer. By the way, Mr. Muthee is not a god. Thus, supernatural is not applicable to him. We say that God worked THRU him. In the liberal world God is absent. So, I don’t expect you to understand this riddle.

  • kevin

“We say that God worked THRU him”

Ohkey… so you god annointed Palin to be gov and more “THRU” this itinerate preacher?

but he has no supernatural powers? I don’t understand. I often hear people say the magic words, but their gods do not answer. Here this man said the magic words and they worked, so he must have super pwers..right?

Sam sez: “Ya know…you seem to be sooooo obsessed with God that you just might need to see someone about that issue……”

Riiiiiiight… So the Christian’s history of exterminating non-believers is just their way of ‘spreading the good news’?

As a Kenyan all I can say is that I pray for America. You have got to be kidding me. I would tell that pastor to come pray for the poor people in Turkana who are at present dying from hunger. America is becoming a sitcom.

That pastor is a common conman who sees witches in anyone not giving him money for his church.

  • amii

First time visitor. Is it normal that the majority of your commenters are so ignorant, or has this one article raised the ire of some fundy website? If the former, condolences. If the latter, congrats.

My problem with fundies and their particular brand of hypocrisy, is that it’s so lazy and defies all rationality.

To say of a witch hunting pastor that you are okay with a person’s religion even if you don’t always agree with the person makes you sound like an ignorant, violent troglodyte, and not just to secular people by the way. It makes you sound that way even to most Christians, not to even mention all the other religions out there.

To say that liberals are godless is just stupid. Most people believe in God, and in the US, most of those believers are some form of Christian or Protestant faith.

How can you defend your church sanctioned ignorance? Do you really believe that God wants you walking around more ignorant than he made you capable of being? How come you never defend your position with a position? You just get blustery and say that’s what God wants? How do you know what God wants; you won’t even use the brains he gave you.

  • charlotte

Another first time visitor. I followed the link from the London timesonline website…. Most of these comments are confusing and scary. I don’t what psychiatric facility most of you escaped from, but I begin to see why the American papers won’t publish such a story. Too much bother from the crazies. Coming from the UK these mad rambling make me afraid for the general public in America. That the few who hold these very very intolerant views seem SO loud and SO obnoxious that the press are loath to tell such stories is awful.

  • Coming from the USA, I’m afraid for the general public in America too.

  • JESUS IS COMING SOON!

“THE GREATEST THING THAT SATAN ACCOMPLISHED WAS CONVINCING THE WHOLE WORLD THAT HE DOESN’T EXIST”!

12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

    Ephesians 6:12

  • Jim

I tried wrestling against a principality once, but I sprained my wrist.

  • Jesus is coming soon? Didn’t they say that two thousand years ago? What did they mean, soon on a geological time scale?

  • Jim

Well, you know they say He is Our Rock. Maybe they meant it literally!
