Are You A Real American? Ask Robin Hayes.

Sarah Palin has declared that Republican-supporting areas are the “real America”, and the rest of the country is not really in America at all. Where are we, then – in Africa? Polynesia? Antarctica?

It seems it isn’t just Sarah Palin who believes in a great big fake America too. Introducing John McCain at a rally in North Carolina a couple days ago, Republican Congressman Robin Hayes told the crowd that “liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”

Liberals hate real Americans? Why, that means that liberals are, according to Robin Hayes, not really Americans at all. Does that mean we liberals are not entitled to vote?

The Hayes comment also suggests there are other categories of people who aren’t real Americans. If you don’t believe in God, you’re not a real American. Also, if you aren’t financially successful, you’re not a real American.

Well, that goes a long way toward explaining how John McCain could say that the fundamentals of the American economy are strong. If you just redefine Americans who aren’t doing well as fake Americans, then they no longer count as part of the American economy, do they?
