Michael Arcuri's Betrayals of Democrats Serve Him Poorly

For the last two years, Upstate New York Democratic U.S. Representative Mike Arcuri has held an arrogant attitude when it comes to upholding the U.S. Constitution. First with the Military Commissions Act, and then with the FISA Amendments Act, Arcuri supported George W. Bush and gave the Constitution a kick in the teeth.

Arcuri loyalists in Utica, New York hissed when Democrats protested these betrayals. They said that Arcuri was entitled to the Democratic vote. They assumed that Democrats would simply fall in line behind Arcuri, no matter what.

That’s not what the election looks like tonight. In this Year of Obama, Congressman Michael Arcuri should have been a shoe-in for re-election. Instead, with 44 percent of precincts reporting, it’s 50.5 percent for Richard Hanna, the Republican challenger, and 49.5 percent for incumbent Arcuri.

Update: With 58 percent of precincts reporting, it’s getting even worse for Arcuri – It’s now about 51 percent to 48 percent.

Second Update: Drama! Now, with 91 percent of the vote in, it’s 50.2 percent Arcuri and 49.8 percent Hanna. Regardless of whether Arcuri wins or not, the race should never have even been this close.
