I’ve never been one for ribbons to promote political issues. If you’re a ribbon activist, however, there’s a new one for you to pin on your chest: The white knot.
Take a white ribbon, and tie a double knot in it, cut the ends for flair points, put a safety pin through it, and you’ve got your white knot.
Oh, right – why have you just created a white knot? It’s the new symbol in support of the right of equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. It symbolizes tying the knot, see.
“It may seem like a small thing, but imagine the white knot gaining the pervasiveness and instant recognition of the AIDS Ribbon,” writes the White Knot group. The AIDS ribbon, huh? Well, it got instant recognition, that little red ribbon, but my mind is getting a little bit foggy on what the ribbon accomplished, outside of the world of public relations.
