AntiLogging Activism Reheats in Northwest
News of protest against logging in old growth forests in Australia caught my attention this morning, but here in the United States, resistance to logging of old growth trees is heating back up too, thanks to last-minute pro-logging maneuvers by George W. Bush.
EarthFirst is on the scene too, in spite of the accusations of ecoterrorism against the group. They’re tree sitting in Humboldt County to protect a 60 acre grove of old growth redwoods that’s been identified by a company called Green Diamond as part of a larger plan for new home construction. In this economy, with housing prices plunging, I wouldn’t think that anyone would still be trying to make money off of real estate deals, but then, I’m not a dealer.
