Military Commissions Act Doesn’t Keep You Safe

During the debate in 2006 about whether to pass the Military Commissions Act, which legalized torture, retroactively legalized war crimes, suspended habeas corpus and set up kangaroo courts in a mockery of justice, many politicians admitted that the bill was far from perfect but said that they had to vote for it because it was important to balance freedom with the need for security.

Well, the Military Commissions Act has been in effect for two and a half years now. What security has it brought you?

Zip.

The Military Commissions Act has not enabled one single conviction for any crimes connected to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The Military Commissions Act managed to wreck our nation’s system of freedoms while simultaneously failing to make America secure. Those politicians who voted for the Military Commissions Act managed to trade the Bill of Rights for a failed regime of Homeland Incompetence.

Now they have the chance to make their mistake right. U.S. Representative David Price has introduced H.R. 591, to repeal the Military Commissions Act. It’s time to be rid of this bad law – and the Democrats no longer have any excuse that they don’t have enough votes to get it done.

The staff here at “iRregUlar tImeS” appears to consist of a bunch of know-it-alls that have the answers to the worlds problems in their butt pockets. My suggestion is for to you get your buck toothed pusses into the real world and put your intellectual prowess to the test.

Might take some of the shit stained smugness off your faces.

You all seem to want facts…Fact: There have been 14 KNOWN terrorist plots against America since 9/11 that have failed because of these an other measures taken. This so-called torture of people who, given the chance wouldn’t think twice about killing anyone of you. They have made it clear that they hate us and will stop at nothing. What do you call it when they behead some poor journalist just trying to do there job over there? Oh, that’s right, you are the same people who believe in Pro-choice. It’s perfectly OK to kill a human life at any stage in the womb, because, “hey that’s my right.” Then you turn around and say, “the polar bear or the snaildart is in danger.” I am stunned, that there are people who care MORE about what happens to an animal, that to an innocent human life. Don’t me wrong..I’m animal lover too, but when we don’t give human life precidence over animals…something is very wrong here.

Name the 14 “known terrorist plots.” Describe how they have been prevented by the Military Commissions Act. Cite your sources.

      • Really, Shelly? Facts? Okay, Shelly – name those terrorist plots, and give us the facts about how each of those 14 terrorist plots would have prevailed if it weren’t for torture.

        Hm…

What? You don’t have those facts? You were just told that it was true… by the same government that told you Iraq had massive arsenals of weapons of mass destruction? On that flimsy evidence you’re willing to support torture? You know, Shelly, I think you just like torture.

There’s a reason it’s so-called torture. They call it torture because it’s, you know, torture.

    • Voltaire, if you could bring your own smugness into the real world, you would be able to create a fact-based, reality-based response. You haven’t done that. You haven’t actually responded to a single thing in this article.

All you’ve done, Voltaire, is to say that you don’t like us.

So, if you can’t argue against our points, why not try to help out, and pressure the government back toward constitutionality, instead of just sniping from the sidelines?

  • Ralph

I have read your response Voltaire–carefully, twice.

I do not follow your argument. Could you please explain in a bit more detail how calling the staff “know-it-alls” and “buck toothed pussies” demonstrates the effectiveness of the Military Commissions Act in making Americans safe?

the important thing is to focus on the main correlations of hitler’s road to tyranny and how amazingly alike it is to america today-
    Things they had in common:
    “enhanced interrogation”
    “domestic security”
    “national Id cards”
    “terror threats”
    “wiretapping”
    “torture”
They both passed legislature in the name of freedom designed to strip them away, pretty fuckin smart really.
And to you ignorant “freedom lovers” who think obama is for change…..I’ll take my guns, my freedom and my own life, you can keep the change!
