Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 549, the National Bombing Prevention Act, a piece of legislation that shows just how far Homeland Security has gone beyond the borders of the sane.
The Department of Homeland Security already has at its disposal the infrastructure it needs to coordinate information and reasonable preparation for terrorist attacks, in whatever form they may come. However, the Democrats in the House of Representatives seem to have decided that they needed to make some kind of display that they can be tough on terrorists, just like the Republicans. So they came up with H.R. 549, which establishes, inside the Protective Security Coordination Division in the Office of Infrastructure Protection in the Department of Homeland Security yet one more office: The Office for Bombing Prevention.
Offices can prevent bombings, you see.
Did you know that children and the mentally disabled can prevent bombings as well? That’s what the National Bombing Prevention Act says. It contains a provision that orders the new Office for Bombing Prevention to communicate specifically with mentally disabled Americans and children about “ways they can deter, detect, prevent, protect against, and respond to terrorist explosive attacks in the United States”.
How can an American with mental disabilities deter a terrorist bombing? The Office for Bombing Prevention will produce a public outreach campaign to answer that very question. How can a child prevent terrorists with bombs from accomplishing their dastardly deeds? The Office for Bombing Prevention will soon explain…
…if the U.S. Senate is so idiotic to pass its own version of the National Bombing Prevention Act.
