Today in Prague, Barack Obama made a pretty speech with the following pledge:
“Together, we must confront climate change by ending the world’s dependence on fossil fuels, tapping the power of new sources of energy like the wind and sun, and calling upon all nations to do their part. And I pledge to you that in this global effort, the United States is now ready to lead.”
Oh, I get it. Now, as in not last month, when President Obama signed legislation giving federal money to the “clean coal” sham. Now, as in not when Obama’s Secretary of the Interior and other White House officials confirmed Barack Obama’s support for expanded offshore drilling for petroleum, which Obama voted in favor of last year, not long before the 20 year anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Yeah, sure. The United States is really, really ready to lead… hold on, President Obama is just finishing up a conversation with Chevron… and he’s almost ready to lead to end the dependence on fossil fuels… but he’s washing the dishes with some clean coal… any second now… okay… NOW the United States is ready to lead!
What a relief. For a minute there, I thought he wouldn’t pull it out.
