Homelessness in the Neighborhood
Signs of change in the economy come at me as I walk down the street here in Columbus, Ohio. I haven’t seen a Hummer for months, for one thing. The “for lease” signs in the store fronts are ubiquitous. We’ve had a few homeless people who come through the neighborhood for some time now, but lately I see more. This month, a homeless woman has set up a camp behind the gym at my son’s school. A homeless man is sleeping in a compartment at the top of a jungle gym in the park across the street. A plaque at the bottom of the jungle gym says it was built as part of a demonstration for Bob Vila’s show, Home Again.
