Episcopal Church Trying To Destroy Marriage?

mother davisMother Davis plays a game of chess as she considers,

Right wing opponents of legalizing same-sex marriage say that supporters of marriage equality are just a bunch of wacko extremists out of touch with mainstream American culture. Now, that group of wacko, out of touch extremists includes the Episcopal Church. Episcopal bishops just voted, by an overwhelming majority, to have their church practice religious rituals of marriage for same-sex couples. Final approval by the rest of the church will come soon.

Are people now going to claim that the Episcopal Church is trying to destroy the institution of marriage? I suppose you could follow that line of reasoning – if you’re still upset at King Henry VIII for breaking England away from the Catholic Church in order to get a divorce.

Using a bishop and a queen to put the king in check,

“Are people now going to claim that the Episcopal Church is trying to destroy the institution of marriage?”

    Yes

  • le pelerin

Next will be “marriage” between 2 women and a man, 2 relatives, father daughter, mother daughter, brother sister… or everyone in the family marrying each other. Why stop with people, Lady with her pet, farmer with his girlfriend and donkey. Come on people, marriage is between a man and a women, every other so called marriage confusses what marriage is: unity for the purpose of procreation and protection of the children. Othe then that there is no need for marriage.

The Episcopal Church is destroying the institution of marriage, no doubt with good intentions.

    • Oh, bull. That’s what bigots said about interracial marriage. Have you noticed that, since same-sex marriage has been legalized in several states, what you’re predicting has NOT taken place?

      • Jacob

No it has taken place. The second it became possible for men to marry men and women to marry women the institution of marriage took a major blow and became cheap. Its already happened…

        • Really? So men are marrying dogs in Massachusetts? Women are marrying their sons? Husbands have two wives there now? Farmers are marrying their girlfriends AND their donkeys in Vermont?

No, Jacob, the only blow that this “institution of marriage” has taken is in your head.

Marriage licenses were initially started to prevent interracial marriages. Marriage used to just be private contracts and run by whichever religious organization that allowed it.

Now there are all sorts of tax breaks, etc, and it’s also used to prevent gays from marrying.

So infertile women and men shouldn’t be allowed to marry, then? Right? Right?

And women and men who don’t want to have kids shouldn’t be allowed to marry either, right? Right?

      • Jim

Hey, le Pelerin, why won’t you answer my questions?

You said “marriage is: unity for the purpose of procreation and protection of the children. Othe then that there is no need for marriage.”

So infertile women and men shouldn’t be allowed to marry, then? And women and men who don’t want to have kids shouldn’t be allowed to marry either, right? Right? Right?

        Look who goes silent now.

Nothing wrong with destroying the state-run institution of marriage.

      That’s what I call progress!

      • Jacob

On the plus side you guys can call whatever you want marriage. The defenition of true marriage hasnt changed. God still only honors those marriages he has allowed. The others are nothing more then papers filed at a courthouse…

        • Jacob

          According to the Episcopal Church?

        • Hey, I just talked to God, and he says he doesn’t allow your kind of marriage, Jacob. I expect you to move out of the house that person you call your “wife” now.

Or, maybe, could it be that people are just pretending that what they think and want has been said by “God”.

          • Jacob

No, he has given record… There is this entire Book that contains His rules and standards. There is a true moral Authority to fall back on. Your argument holds no water. If you wanted to argue against the book you may have at least grounds to start a conversation. Now you just look foolish… I can read what it says and no ‘conversation with God’ can contradict what He has already given to us.
As far as pretending, “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders” or “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable”. Not much pretending there. It is all so black and white

            • qs

Where does this book say gays can’t be married?

            • qs

Well, does it say anything about woman marrying woman?

              Maybe that is ok?

            • Oh, Jacob, I have God’s updated record. He came and gave me a copy. Have you asked him for one? Maybe you’re low on the list of priorities. Anyway, this record of God’s updated rules says that the name “Jacob” now has to be spelled b-a-b-o-o-n. Hop to it, Jacob. You don’t want to disobey God, after all, and his updated rule book. I’m so sorry God didn’t fill you in.

              • Jacob

O, and about Christians using the Bible in order to keep blacks from marrying. Your right, stupid people come in all shapes and sizes but they also come from your side. I do recall that Darwin Evolution Theory originaly stated that black people were less evolved and a lower life form. Darwin himself was king of the racists. People in the past on the Christian side dont get the stupid award alone so that is another stupid argument…Mr Wood you seem to be striking out today. You must have forgotten your A- game at home… Try again

Rick Snatorum is happy that he can get it on with some hot man on dog action!
