Senator Will Work For Cheese

Ron Wyden took to the floor of the United States Senate, amidst debate over the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court and over the passage of health care reform and climate legislation. Yet, Senator Wyden had more important things on his mind. Senator Wyden was thinking of cheese.

Senator Wyden came to praise cheese, not to bury it. In particular, Wyden praised Tillamook Cheese. Defending his Oregon turf from midwestern rivals, Wyden declared, “With all due respect to my colleagues from the great State of Wisconsin, Tillamook is cheese.”

What’s the big deal? This year, the Tillamook County Creamery Association is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its creation. As part of this celebration the association is bringing out some old cheese, having “opened the vault where its special 100th anniversary Vintage White cheddar cheese has been aging”.

Here comes the letdown: That cheddar in their vault has only been aging for three years. Wouldn’t you like to try some cheddar that’s been aging for 100 years?
