The Principled Opposition to Health Care Reform

Republican webshop TheRightWing is selling these postcards like hotcakes:

Obamacare postcard showing the President as a witch doctor

You know, some people say that opposition to Barack Obama’s agenda has an element of racism. But I don’t think so. No, no, no. Why do people jump to conclusions like that?

i can’t beleive how i got a chuckle from that picture.
it just struck me as funny. i’m sorry, i guess.
it probably is pure racist, but, it has a editorial cartoon aspect that allows it some slack. at least for me.
also, those tribal doctors are not as suspect as once thought to be. it seems modern medicine has learned quite a bit from the jungle cures.

Laugh all you want, the insurance industry may have just gotten the White House to drop the public option in his healthcare reform policy (so the bullshit is working) – reported by Yahoo news:

  3. qs says:

What do you think about that joker poster then?

  4. randy ray haugen says:

it appears we will end up with a watered down version of healthcare reform that will only make the current system harder to navigate and the insurance companies more profits. at least the democrats can say they tried and the republicans can say they saved the country from the commies.
meanwhile, something is making me sick.

      Obama’s reelection campaign:

      Obamacare on its last legs
A new 45,000 man surge in Afghanistan
      Staying the course in Iraq

He did end extraordinary renditions so that will have to be enough to satisfy the left.

      1. ReMarker says:

Nope. The dummies that voted GOP got fooled. It’s just the rest of us have to live with it.

      2. ReMarker says:

PS. I saw The Who performing that song live several times.

  5. qs says:

Rand Paul goes on the Glen Beck show to talk about the “death panels.”

I like their point that Government death panels already exist in the UK as part of their government decided health care.

    1. ReMarker says:

You let Fox count you in their audience? That just encourages the idiots. Fox will never be able to count my “hit”. There is none. I’ll watch them make fools of themselves on sites that post videos of them doing it.

      1. qs says:

Beck is OK. He’s the only one I can stand to occasionally watch…well I mostly just watch highlight clips involving specific matters anyway.

I their Freedom Watch show better, but that is featured online only.

Obama’s Health care plan or coming Comprehensive immigration reform to implement a Rudy Guiliani-style national I.D. card?

  6. ReMarker says:

A picture of a white man holding a Salem witch trial is more repulsive that this Obama picture, but the white man’s picture would somehow not seem prejudiced. Go figure.

  7. randy ray haugen says:

i heard bill maher took quite a lambasting last week for calling amreica or americans stupid. then i seen his show this week and he did a great job defending his point of view. i don’t know if he was talking about the opposition to healthcare reform when he made that comment, but, they are either very stupid or very well paid, or both.
chicken little said the sky is falling, and all the people who watched him on fox news believed him. anything will fly in the face of such ignorance, even death panels and alien witch doctors.

  8. qs says:

Essentially the communists have seized control of the government right now.

We need a resistance movement although I don’t think there is a need to get so ugly with those post cards.

    1. Jim says:

      Really?

The Communists have seized control of the government?

      Really?

Tell me what Communism is, then tell me how The Communists have seized control of the government.

      1. qs says:

Well the left have complete control of the government right now, and are intend on expanding Federal Power.

I think most Americans would be happy with more balance within the government.

        1. Jim says:

You mean authoritarians, then, not communists. I agree that the government is filled with authoritarians.

          1. qs says:

O it’s all the same thing.

I saw a story Mises Institute story comparing Communist Russia’s economy with Fascist Germany.

            1. qs says:

O it’s all the same thing.
I saw a story Mises Institute story comparing Communist Russia’s economy with Fascist Germany.

The two economies worked just about the same all with central control.

              1. Jim says:

No, it’s NOT actually “all the same thing.” Hitler had communists killed.

              2. qs says:

                No,

It’s just a different name for the same system.

Their economies were both centrally controlled and exactly the same.

              3. qs says:

JBS has some good documentaries on how fascism and communism are the same end result too.

              4. Jim says:

What’s JBS? Makes me think of Johann Bach (Sebastian).

Cancer and strokes have the end result. Golly, I guess they must be the same thing. Aortic dissections and nuclear bombs, too.

              5. Jim says:

Oh, God. You surely don’t mean the John Birch Society. They have some pretty interesting explanations of Satanism too. Just don’t let ’em pay you in Ameros.

              6. qs says:

                Jim,
This one is decent article from Mises. If you don’t agree that’s fine, but that is just your opinion.

However, I think they’re the same thing but just with different names.

                http://mises.org/story/1937

              7. Jim says:

No, it’s not just my opinion, and that’s the whole thing, qs. You’re trying to make the Obama administration look bad by using certain words in association with it, words that people have an emotional reaction to, like “communism.” But you are not using the word communism in the way that communists from Stalin to Zedong have used it, or in the way that non-communist historians who study communism have used it. You’re just using communism as a catchword for power-grabbing authoritarianism in government. There are many different kinds of ways that you can have power-grabbing authoritarianism in government, from fascism to communism to theocracy to aristocracy and so on. Each one is of a different sort, and the differences matter.

Not only that, but GEEZ. You link to the “mises” article and golly whizzikers, but it NEVER uses the word “communism.” The article (poorly, in my opinion) equates Nazism with socialism. Socialism is not the same kind of governmental structure as communism. Look at the Democratic Socialists of America website and read around to get an idea about how one brand of socialism (there are many) can be articulating different arrangements between economy, society, government and the individual than communism did.

Words matter, qs, because they express ideas. Choose those words carefully.

              8. qs says:

uhh no… Mises Institute the Libertarian think tank has written many article about how NATIONAL SOCIALISM is a centrally controlled economy exactly like COMMUNISM (National Socialism with a different name.)

My belief is a true and you’re wrong. This has nothing to do with Obama really.

              9. Jim says:

Notice your shift. Now you’re talking about how the Nazis were like Communists in a particular way. That’s different than saying they’re the “same thing.” Basic high school logic stuff.

In what PARTICULAR am I wrong, qs? Perhaps we could start a focused conversation there, rather than keep shifting around like this.

              10. qs says:

                Jim,
I’m not claiming that the National Socialist movement is a left wing thing. It’s not. It’s a right wing movement whereas the communist movement is more of a left-wing movement, but both achieve the exact same end-result, which is centralized control.

Look at how the political compass ranks the British National Party (the one that is supposed to be extreme extreme right wing.
Notice the BNP is WAY to the left of the Labor Party in actual policy according to this test anyway (I think parts of that test are a little biased leftward but whatever it’s still good.)
BNP is kind of like the NAZI party in my opinion.

              11. qs says:

Also, We haven’t had a decent president since Grover Cleveland.

Every republican president has left this country worse off then when he came in as has every republican president.

Our government grows no matter who is in charge.

              12. Jim says:

What do you think of the picture in this article, qs?

              13. qs says:

                Jim,

By the way.

Notice the BNP is WAY to the left of the Labor Party in actual policy according to this test anyway (I think parts of that test are a little biased leftward but whatever it’s still good.)

qs, fess up! it’s more than beck you’re watching on fox. that “communists have taken over” bit comes right off bill o’reilly’s teleprompter.
and as for your resistance movement, i only wish that this cartoon-like post card was as ugly as it gets.

    1. qs says:

      I never watch O’Reilly.

I don’t even watch Beck, unless I see his clips posted on the internet. Beck is the best one they have right now in terms of watchability.

  10. randy ray haugen says:

qs,then how did you get so full of b.s.
oh, i forgot, you read it online.

  11. David Ladd says:

No, communism is about establishing equality of access to everything for everyone. You know, like chopping heads off some to make those of shorter stature feel tall. Taxxing the rich into the ground to provide for those that don’t have as much, to include those too lazy to work, or who didn’t have the incentive, or self-discipline to learn a lucrative skill. Sort of the antithesis of capitalism? Is that the communism you’re referring to, or is there another?

    1. qs says:

Well the Germans killed people who were not part of the “collective” too when they killed Jewish people and minorities and retarded people. So did the Communists.

Stalin killed 6 million Ukrainians in one year because he did not think they fit in well with the group. He killed all kinds of people who were not the perfect Soviets.

Also Hitler’s first objective in mein kampf was to do away with all the German States because he wanted centralized control over everything so that decentralized government could not oppose him. Somehow I doubt the commies wanted states rights either.
