Audition: Teacher Type Against Maine Marriage Equality (Video)

A couple of days ago, Jim Stiles of Stand for Marriage Maine put out the call for an actor willing to pretend to be a “real Maine” “teacher type.” Auditions are being held on September 2 at the South Portland Howard Johnson for a TV advertisement to air before this fall’s vote in Maine on Ballot Question 1. Auditioning actors will compete before the camera, explaining why teacher types in Maine should vote to stop marriage equality.

I encourage all people who have an opinion about equality to show up and audition for the spot with their own sincere opinions on the subject. I mean, we’re all actors when it comes down to it, aren’t we? If you can’t make it all the way to Portland, Maine by Wednesday, why not post your audition online? That way, even if you aren’t chosen, people will know

I’ve decided to do just that. Here’s my audition for a “teacher type” TV ad with reasons to vote Yes on Maine’s Ballot Question 1.

I do so hope that Stand for Marriage Maine picks it; it’s the most comprehensible justification for a Yes on 1 vote that I could think of.
