Warmest Summer Ocean Ever Recorded

Pop quiz: How do these two things fit together?

Thing 1: Pro-industry public relations efforts claim that the earth is cooling, not warming.

Thing 2: The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration reports that the ocean temperatures measured this summer are the warmest for that season ever recorded. Furthermore, the combined land and sea surface temperatures are the second-highest ever recorded.

——-

Answer: When pro-industry PR hacks refer to “the earth” cooling, they’re talking about a tupperware container of dirt they just put into the freezer. It would be against their professional ethics to lie, after all.

I was reading somewhere that this trend is not refersable. Even if we did everything we know how to do to stop this it wouldnt work? have you seen the same thing? Have we reached the tipping point where nothing can be done but slow it down?

If your car is headed for a collision with a tree and there’s nothing you can do to avoid it, wouldn’t you want to at least slow down before you hit? If you can slow down enough you might just survive.

Not in our lifetime Jacob. The problem has been brewing (no pun intended) since the Industrial Revolution, but, intelligent creatures that we are, we didn’t figure out the connection (and many still deny it exists) until relatively recently (the last 50 years). Since then our lazy, fat, intellectually bankrupt species has been doing its best to ignore all the warning signs. So here we are, still polluting the shit out of the atmosphere, the biosphere, our oceans and water supplies with almost everything we do, and dooming many other species of plant, animal, bird, bug, fish, etc. to extinction – thinking it will never catch up to us.

Pay day’s a comin’, just keep your eyes and ears open, but enjoy what you have while you can.

It seems walruses can’t take the heat.

Tom is correct, the problem has been brewing for a long time. Environmental activists haven’t been very effective to date. It’s to bad so many of them poo poo their best hope in decades. I would think Obama would get their support and encouragement instead of the environmentalist beating him up for the way things are and the speed with which he (Obama) can get things changed. Oh well.
