No, I’m not talking about Jimmy Carter. I’m talking about Willie Carter. He ran for President in 1996. He ran in 2000. He ran in 2004, and again in 2008. Now, Willie Carter is taking part in the 2012 presidential campaign as well, competing against Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination. “I am prepared to take the helm of government and to turn our nation around to prosperity,” he says.
Willie Carter has been prepared for 30 years. In 1980, Carter had a prophetic vision in which he says he learned that God wants him to be President. His 2012 campaign can be regarded, then, as the triumph of religious faith over worldly evidence.
According to the Federal Election Commission, all of the donations to the Carter 2012 campaign have been from Carter himself. The lack of external support isn’t due to a lack of effort, however. Just this last Saturday, Carter held a breakfast fundraiser at Norma’s Cafe in Dallas, Texas. As presidential fundraisers go, the price was very reasonable: Just 25 dollars per plate.
