$10.6 Million Dollars a Day in Untraceable Campaign Spending

From October 16 to October 20, 2010 (the latest day for which FEC data is available), corporate entities that have made-up names and are largely exempted from having to reveal their mysterious donors spent $53,052,839 in independent expenditures on congressional campaigns. $15.0 million went to oppose Democrats, $2.9 million went to support Democrats, $4.7 million to support Republicans, and $30.1 million to oppose Republicans.

This boils down to $10.6 million every day in mostly untraceable campaign spending to reward or punish politicians. If the public cannot find out who the people are supporting some politicians’ campaigns and opposing other politicians’ campaigns, there cannot be any accountability for any corruption that occurs.
