Disclsosed Party Committee Lobbyist Bundles Dwarfed by Undisclosed Independent Expenditures

Yes, the four political party committees spending on congressional races have raked in millions of dollars from lobbyists who bundled together campaign contributions during the 2009-2010 election season:

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee: $3,587,850
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee: $1,334,225
National Republican Senatorial Committee: $1,127,150
National Republican Congressional Committee: $771,900

For you and me, seven million dollars is a lot of money. But compared to the $384,290,817 spent on “independent expenditures” in the 2009-2010 election season so far, it’s next to nothing. When the donors behind “independent expenditures” are unlimited in amount and don’t have to be disclosed, why would a lobbyist bother messing with disclosed bundling?
