Update: Democratic Undergound Still Selling Sweatshop Shirts

Three and a half years ago, I contacted Democratic Underground to ask them why, given their stance at the time against sweatshop production in factories, they were selling shirts many of which were likely made in sweatshops.

Three and a half years later, I haven’t heard a word back from Democratic Underground on this.

Three and a half years later, they’re still selling the ethically dubious shirts — at $6-$8 markups.

The only good thing you can say about Democratic Underground is that they’ve at least gotten consistent with their stance — since I first wrote them, their coverage of sweatshop issues has just about disappeared.

Lame is too weak a word for them. This is pathetic.

It’s buisness…you know, captialism…making money…how else are they going to pay for the tax hikes coming down the pike….

    • Do you really mean to say that the only way to do business is to employ people in sweatshops while raking in $6-$8 in pure profit per shirt? This is clearly not so; a number of businesses operate without using sweatshop labor. Democratic Underground has a choice.

Which specific “tax hikes coming down the pike” are you referring to? Name them.
