Nylon and Cotton are Part of the Reality-Based Community

You know, at some point after careful empirical review you might want to recognize that your Morgellons is the fuzzies from your coat.

Citizens for Legitimate Government rants about Morgellons conspiracy

Or not. Citizens for Legitimate Government has the right to dissociate itself from the Reality-Based Community… but I don’t have to read it.

When I was young, the big hysteria-inducer was fluoridation of the water supply…it was, IIRC, a Communist mind-control plot. But I never actually met anyone who believed this…the notion was pretty much restricted to John Birchers and a sub-set of those folks who had never actually met a dentist.

Fast-forward to today, where conspiracy theorists who believe that contrails and vaccines are evil plots seem to number in the millions…I don’t actually have any hard data on this, but jeez I’ve personally run across a lot of these people. What does it say about us as a society when so many folks are under the delusion that they are being poisoned by such things, while we pretty much overlook that we actually are being poisoned by mercury from ubiquitous coal-fired power plants? I mean, if you need to obsess over being poisoned, why wouldn’t you choose something, like, real to worry about?
