Top 5 Anti-Romney Web Sites

I was originally going to headline this article as Top 10 Web Sites Against Mitt Romney. However, I couldn’t find 10 solid web sites dedicated especially to opposition to Mitt Rommey. The truth is that, as I write this, I’m not even feeling confident about a top 5 list.

There used to be a large number of anti-Romney sites, but they were Republican anti-Romney sites, operated by right wing extremists who favored other candidates for the GOP nomination. Most of those sites are now sitting vacant, with advertising links gathering dust. These former Republican opponents of Romney have transformed themselves into his supporters. Liberal opponents of Mitt Romney don’t seem very well organized online.

Resist RomneyOur own Anti-Romney shop of buttons, bumper stickers and magnets happens to place well in the search engine rankings for Anti-Romney sites, and we encourage you to visit that site, but it just doesn't seem right for us to place our own web site on this top 5 list.

At 5th place, I’ll list another site that’s close to the Republican anti-Romney sites in its stance. It’s Expose Rommey, a site dedicated to the idea that Mitt Romney’s Mormon religious identity is in itself problematic. For those of us Americans who honor the constitutional concept that there shall be no religious test for public office, the idea that we should vote against Romney just because of his Mormon religion is hard to swallow. But, as I said, the anti-Romney pickings are rather slim this year.

In 4th place, let’s put the similarly narrow, but more appropriate Mitt Is Mean. This site focuses on the Romney family’s propensity for ignoring the welfare of the domesticated animals under its care, from the family dog infamously packed up on the top of the Romney car to the horse that Mitt’s wife uses in dressage competitions.

Scouring the web for a solid source of news focusing on opposition to Mitt Romney, we come to the Right Wing Watch Mitt Romney section, in 3rd place.

That’s about it for significant anti-Romney sites – at least those that are independent of other candidates. In 2nd place in the top 5 anti-Romney sites is the official campaign site of Barack Obama, the most powerful anti-Romney presidential candidate.

In 1st place, however, I place the campaign site of Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for President. Stein, after all, has been campaigning against Mitt Romney since he was Governor of Massachusetts. Furthermore, Jill Stein proposes policies that consistently oppose Mitt Romney’s policies. That simply isn’t true of the Democrats.

Looks like Mitts got a lot of support:

    • What Mitt has is extremely weak opposition from the liberal population of the United States, as evidenced by the remarkable lack of anti-Romney web sites. What’s going on this year? Are liberals content to simply allow the wealthy to play with the election through their independent expenditures?

A political web site is a very inexpensive way for average citizens of the United States to get a political message out. It looks like the liberal citizens of this country don’t care enough about stopping Mitt Romney to get much together – less than 100 days until the election.

That inactivity is frightening to me.

Anti-Romney site is cheap to make, but how do you drive traffic there, especially people who are not already anti-Romney or not engaged in other sites like Kos? Mitt’s weak opposition is only part of the story. He also has weak support much like Obama. A case might be made that Obama faces strong opposition in general but the threat is not from anything Romney is going to propose. Inversely, Obama himself may be the strongest part of what anti-romney mojo there is but progressives are leery that he’s just in campaign mode. Probably my bias, but I still think Obama is going to squeak by Romney’s implosion and a more progressive congress would make more difference in getting anything good done than either Pres.

        • Dove,

If you or anyone else knows of a good anti-Romney website, we’ll do our part to help spread the word. That kind of activity drives it up in search rankings, which means that when people are looking for information about Mitt Romney they’ll have critical information available to them.

On Obama and Romney — the polls are tied. And then there’s Jill Stein, Green candidate for President. Why do the Democrats keep spoiling the Green vote? ;)

        • Dove

Indeed, Jim. The Dems get enough corporate support to campaign and win with rhetoric and issues the Green party and Jill Stein in particular have more integrity on. Maybe online culture will be able to produce a grassroots 99% candidate (supported by previous non-voters and disaffected Dems) for 2016 if the Dems continue to be conservative and the Republicans and corporations keep pushing the boundaries on the right. Force all that corporate money to be funneled to Tea-publican candidates that will be ignored or mocked.

Mitt Romney: A Capitalist? No, a phony capitalist who hijacked the terms and tools of capitalism.

At YouTube/MormoneyRomney see 50 second youtube vid of the following

Republicans decapitalized factories and decapitated jobs: Decapitalists, not capitalists.
Decapitalists robbed the biggest bank– America’s pensions.
In 1980, the top 1% owned 20% of America. Today, 50% plus!
In 1980, retirees had almost $300k in publicly regulated corporate benefits.
Today, barely $100k (about $40k in 1980 dollars).
    401k is how and why
Decapitalists: Semantic wolves in MBA sheepskins.
Attacking capitalism beats a deadhorse dead decades ago.
Let’s limit pensions to American jobs, not decapitalists.
