King Henry VIII In San Francisco

This painting of King Henry The Eighth is in the hallway of my hotel in San Francisco. I am fairly confident that this particular monarch never left Europe, much less traveled to the Pacific coast of North America.

Why would a hotel post a painting of a monarch from hundreds of years ago who never came anywhere near where the hotel was built?

I don’t think that’s why, though, Tom. I think some people who go to that business hotel would like to imagine themselves as gigantic, powerful, and able to marry loads of wives.
