36 Democrats Help Republicans Keep Oil Leaking Out Of The USA

This morning, I wrote about the vote by 18 (or 19) Democrats to help the Republicans give a special exemption from environmental protections just to the builders of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline. This afternoon, I want to take note of an even larger group of Democrats who decided to turn their backs on the environmental base of their own political party, in order to serve the financial interests of Big Oil.

The following 36 Democrats from the House of Representatives voted against an amendment from Rush Holt that would have required, upon completion of the XL Pipeline, that the oil pumped into the United States through the pipeline must stay within the United States, to lower energy costs here.

These Democrats wanted to keep alive the shell game of the fossil fuels industry, claiming that we don’t have enough oil and gas, and so need more drilling, even as they’re shipping huge amounts of oil and gas out of the United States, in order to sell for profit elsewhere.
