Today I learned that:
- Sunflowers are “allelopathic” — this means that they release substances inhibiting the growth of other plants.
- A “banana tree” is not actually a tree, because it doesn’t contain any woody stem. Technically, it’s a big herb!
- The word “canter” is a shortening of “Canterbury trot,” the less-than-galloping pace at which pilgrims to Canterbury were said to travel.
I haven’t learned a single thing about current events or politics today.
What have you learned?
