Fledging Titmice

Though there are many problems in the world, not everything is falling apart. For six titmice who had been growing in a hole in a maple tree outside my home, things are looking much brighter today.

The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics can be interpreted as “things are falling apart constantly” in our universe (it actually is about heat and entropy, but most think of it as dissolution or destruction – like “rust never sleeps”).

Nice about the little creatures though.

Up until yesterday I’ve been bothered by a complete lack of flying bugs! Seriously, I spend most of my days in the garden and don’t see any bees, moths, butterflies, fireflies, ladybugs, dragonflies, mosquitos or even regular flies. There are some gnats, but not as many as in previous years where they were all over me all the time looking for moisture I suppose. Well yesterday I saw two bees and some flies finally, and last night some fireflies. What a relief! It’s spooky without them – too quiet and still. I’ve yet to hear those summer sounds at night where all the insects are communicating in that beautiful background noise they make. i’m sure it’ll come along soon.
