Last week, I reported that in the wake of the 2012 campaign, when Americans Elect had dumped nearly $2 million into a Maine Senate race, six Americans Elect leaders had contributed to the Maine gubernatorial campaign of “independent” Eliot Cutler in the first half of 2013.
The Maine state campaign finance report for the second half of 2013 has just been released.
Guess who added their names to the list of Cutler contributors in the second half of 2013?
Peter Ackerman, Chairman of Americans Elect
Joshua Levine, Director and Chief Technology Officer of Americans Elect
Both contributed the maximum allowable amount to the Cutler campaign.
Steve Mistler of the Portland Press Herald reported earlier this month that a shadow group not officially affiliated with the Cutler campaign organized a press conference to attack one of Cutler’s opponents. There is no word on the funding for that group, but who organized the news conference? The Americans Elect Press Secretary of old, Ileana Wachtel.
There is not sufficient evidence to claim that Americans Elect is running a shadow pro-Cutler campaign. However, the involvement of Americans Elect leaders in the Cutler for Governor campaign is certainly worth watching.
