The Children’s Place = The Orphans’ Place. Why?

Why is the International Labor Rights Forum calling for Americans to boycott and picket The Children’s Place on April 24 2014?

Why? Because a year earlier, on April 24 2013, the rickety Rana Plaza apparel factory in Bangladesh collapsed, killing more than 1,100 people. Those people were paid dirt-poor wages in dangerous conditions to make cute clothes for The Children’s Place. And now they’re dead.

The collapse of the sweatshop factory that The Children’s Place did business with didn’t just kill more than 1,100 people. It turned thousands of children into orphans. And The Children’s Place has refused to pay any compensation to the families of survivors.

Think of that the next time you see the cutest, darlingest little striped jumper on sale for a low, low price at The Children’s Place. Then put the jumper down: it’s been soaked with blood, sweat, hunger and despair.

Stop buying clothes at The Children’s Place… and if you can spare the time, check here to find an April 24 demonstration near you.
