I’m looking for an answer to a campaign finance oddity. Yesterday, the American Society of Anesthesiologists Political Action Committee declared to the FEC that it had spent $110,000.00 for radio advertisements supporting Patrick Hope, one of many Democrats competing for their party’s nomination to Virginia’s 8th district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Sometimes, a professional group will send money to help the campaign of a member of their profession who is running for office. Patrick Hope isn’t an anesthesiologist, though. He’s a lawyer.
Could it be that Hope has the special power of putting people to sleep with his speeches?
Seriously, why would people who specialize in making people fall unconscious team up to support Patrick Hope for Congress, out of all the hundreds of congressional candidates this year?
