Map: State Legislative Bills Mentioning God, 2015-16

Number of Bills before the Fifty State Legislatures that mention "God" in the years 2015 and 2016. Data source: Legiscan. Compiled by Irregular TimesThis map of religiosity in state politics fails to tightly match to a map of partisanship.  The swath of orange, yellow and red, on the other hand, follows the clear outline of a Bible Belt.  Cultural preferences of a majority are bleeding their way into the politics of the state.

Surely, this violates federal law and every sense of decency, meaning, undeniably, that the perpetrators–anyone, in fact, who dares to hold a belief in any form of divinity or of the timeless sacred (to include Emile Durkheim’s insight) –should be rounded up and “re-educated” (ir.e., e programmed or appropriately indoctrinated). How dare anyone question the truth of secular humanism by positing a higher authority or being or existence that Man himself.?

Because noting the use of the state to impose parochial religious preferences equals rounding up Christians and sending them to internment camps.

Congratulations!!!! You win the Biggest Straw Man of 2016 award.
