As the GOP nominates a Double-Denier Ticket, the Globe Keeps on Warming

Mike Pence on February 21, 2014: Just a few years ago we were talking about global warming. Well, we haven't seen a lot of warming lately.

Donald Trump, January 1 2014: This very expensive GLOBAL WARMING bullshit has got to stop. Our planet is freezing, record low temps, and our GW scientists are stuck in ice

While the Republicans’ idea of the best nominees for President and Vice President maintain their records as global warming deniers, new data has been released by NASA confirming that:

  • June 2016 was the hottest June on record in NASA’s 136-year record of global temperature measurements.
  • Global Warming for the Month of June, for the years 1880 to 2016That record occurs within a historical context of consistent global warming for the month June over the years, as graphed here.
  • Every month so far in the year of 2016 — January, February, March, April, May and June — has set a global temperature record for its month in the global temperature record.
  • Before that, 2015 stood as the hottest year on record, a record 2016 is on track to beat.

What does it signify for the Republican Party that its top two picks to lead the nation so strongly reject the reality of a trend that is both publicly observable and highly consequential? What does it mean that so many Americans are inclined to support and validate such behavior?
