Fact Checking Fair Pay In Donald Trump’s Business Dealings
Last night, when Ivanka Trump introduced her father to the Republican National Convention, she spoke about how generous Donald Trump is to the people who work for him.
“I have seen him fight for his employees,” Ivanka said. “Politicians talk about wage equality, but my father has made it a practice at his company throughout his entire career. He will fight for equal pay for equal work, and I will fight for this too, right alongside of him.”
Does Donald Trump fight for his employees? Does he provide equal pay for equal work? No. Often, Donald Trump doesn’t pay the people who work for him at all.
Looking at Donald Trump’s record as an employer, the USA Today discovered that Trump has been sued 3,500 times by his own workers for failing to honor his promises, paying people a fraction of what Trump said they would get, or simply refusing to pay anything at all in compensation for a hard day’s work. Donald Trump has been legally cited 24 times in the past 11 years for violating fair labor regulations. He has hired foreign guest workers instead of Americans in order to pay low wages.
Ivanka, Donald Trump is no champion for fair pay. If he is elected President of the United States, we can expect him to act to keep wages low and to help big corporations cheat workers in the pursuit of profit.
