Arctic Sea Ice Extent for January 11 Hits New Low by Margin of 276,000 Square KM

Every day so far this year, the extent of Arctic sea ice has…

  • not just been below the 1951-1980 average for each calendar day, but also …
  • been more than 2 standard deviations below the 1951-1980 average, and also …
  • been below the previous record-setting low point for each day set in 2011.

Within the past few days, during a Winter period when Arctic sea ice has typically grown, sea ice has actually stalled in its extent.  This means the margin by which 2017 is setting new record lows for ice in the Arctic Ocean has widened further still. On January 11 2017, the last day for which data is available, the Arctic sea ice extent was a full 276,000 square kilometers lower than it has been on the same day in any other year.

Fear mongering again Jim?? What are you going to say when the little ice age begins in a few years? “Oh this happened because of the legislation the left enacted to curb carbon pollution”. Ever heard of a magazine called Forbes? Here’s a little kibble for ya to nibble on…. or is Forbes magazine a conspiracy rag now too?

John, that article is three years old. It’s in a BUSINESS magazine, not a scientific journal. The author works for the Heartland Institute, a group funded by the fossil fuels industry.

Try looking at the science from last week, for a better perspective. There never was any hiatus in global warming.

    2. Jim Cook says:

It’s not even Forbes magazine. It’s a personal blog hosted on Forbes’ website, written by someone who’s a paid shill for the fossil-fuels industry group that calls itself the Heartland Institute.
