Devin Nunes Votes To Prevent Congress From Examining Evidence On Trump, Corruption, and Russia

The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is supposed to be engaged in an investigation into the relationship between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in the organization and execution of last year’s Russian attack against the United States.

Congressman Devin Nunes is the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. As such, Representative Nunes is in charge of the investigation into the links between Putin and Trump.

Last week, in spite of this role, Devin Nunes took part in a public relations campaign orchestrated by the White House, through Press Secretary Sean Spicer, to downplay the connections between Trump and Putin. Spicer personally arranged at least one phone call between Nunes and a reporter, in which Nunes worked with the Trump Administration to try to suppress negative articles about repeated calls Trump campaign staffers to with Russian government spies throughout 2016. Spicer even stayed on the phone line during these calls to make sure Nunes was following the White House script.

As if that’s not bad enough, Devin Nunes voted yesterday to prevent congressional committees from reviewing Donald Trump’s tax returns, even though those tax returns are widely regarded as potential evidence in the investigation into the links between Trump and Putin.

At the same time that Devin Nunes is supposed to be conducting an investigation of the collaboration between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, he is working with Trump to suppress the investigation, and to spread propaganda saying that the investigation isn’t necessary.

The unethical cooperation between Devin Nunes and the Trump White House demonstrates that the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation cannot be trusted by the American people. It’s a politically-compromised whitewash.

Congress needs to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Donald Trump’s crooked dealings with Vladimir Putin, and to investigate the coverup that is increasingly infiltrating Congress itself.
