A Few Politicians Who Have Been Treated Worse Than Trump
Donald Trump complained yesterday, “No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly.”
Is this true?
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, for example, was poisoned so severely by Vladimir Putin that his skin turned purple grey all over his body.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was thrown in prison, hounded by the FBI, and then assassinated.
King Edward II of England was killed by having a red hot poker shoved up his rectum.
This morning Donald Trump whined again, pouting that, “This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!”
Is this true?
Puritan leader George Burroughs was accused of witchcraft and executed for the crime in Salem, Massachusetts in August 1692. Constable John Willard was killed on the same day.
In the 1950’s, State Department official Val Lorwin was accused of being a Communist, and indicted for perjury by Joseph McCarthy’s red scare witch hunt. The evidence against him was testimony that he hosted a meeting at his house with some “strange looking people”. It was two years before these trumped up charges were finally dismissed, and Lorwin’s career was ruined.
Donald Trump is complaining because, based on several independent lines of evidence suggesting that he has been blackmailed by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, colluded with Russian spies attacking the 2016 presidential election, withheld evidence of illegal activities in his presidential campaign, and then obstructed justice to try to cover up his crimes, he is being investigated by a politically-independent special counsel.
That’s not bad treatment. It’s not unfair. It’s not a witch trial. It’s the way the law is supposed to work.
Cry me a river, Mr. Trump. Boo. Hoo.
