In a time of the spring, old paths are obscured and new growth begins.
Forget your football, basketball and baseball teams….a new fantasy league has started here in Minnesota. I haven’t figured out all the rules etc. But it see ms like a novel way to get people interested in bills, congress, and the legislative process.

I’d like to see something like this for the Congress…. Or maybe for the presidential 2008 race… Could we manage that here at Irregular Times? I wonder. Let me talk to J. Clifford and Jim and Mother Davis about it.
There actually is something like this for Congress. It’s called Fantasy Congress. It’s a little different from FL, because they allow teams in a league to own the same lawmaker. Fantasy Legislature doesn’t do that. It’s more like real fantasy sports because there’s a draft and once a lawmaker is taken, he/she is gone.
I understand, however, that FC is making changes for this session.
In the MN area, the fantasy legislature is something that was supposedly begun by MPR (Minnesota Public Radio) a couple of months ago. It has all the appeal/glamour that will suck in PoliSci geeks near and far, but it will also interest those who know far more than the average inbreed of the realities of our current political structure. In the end, the “fantasy” will become little more than a loose conglomerate of frustrated intellectuals (and those triennial wanna-bes) who seek to establish some modecrum of legitimacy after their flaccid attempts at reality-based political involvement. This “league” is ultimately comprised of nothing more than people who affect NOTHING. If political energy is to be expelled, it needs to be in the real-world. We have far too few people in this country truly (much less effectively) engaged in the political process as it is; we can’t afford to lose what energy there is to the illusory falseness that is a political “fantasy league”.
