we all know saddam had nothing to do with this, right? we all remember the Bush administration wanted a war with Iraq when they got into office- 1year befor 9/11!
the animist is right though- we can’t win , it was a lousy idea from the get go, and now we should leave! but nobody listens to reson anymore.

Saddam was defying us, so we had to free the Iraqis.
If we let leaders of other countries defy the United States, how will there ever be freedom in the world?
Think about it.

There’s probably a lot to that “defying” stuff as a reason for our involvement. But Saddam was not just “defying”. He was demonizing and doing it in a way that justified acts of violence against non-Moslems. In the Arab world there is a fine line or no line between words and action. This was true in the days of Egypt’s Nasser and Paletine’s Hajj Amin and it is still true. Same when al-Jazeera got “accidently” bombed out of Baghdad right when they were inciting violence with the dead baby pictures that caused rumbles on the Arab street even out here. The sad thing is, driving all the Jews into the sea and finishing what Hitler started would not solve all the problems of the Arab world. Inciting violence against the west is a convenient scapegoat for them, a very very inconvenient danger for us.

No question about it. Despots around the world either demonize the United States, suck up to us, or a bit of both. It’s an endless wellspring of propaganda and distraction from their own domestic shortcomings.
Karen Hughes and various ad agencies have received millions of dollars to stem the tide of that crass anti-American opportunism (never mind the crass pro-American opportunism, apparently) with some finely crafted propaganda. Wonder when that will start to work.
Let’s not forget, the press back here also demonizes and distorts various foreign bad guys. Cover of a weekly news magazine: “The face of evil,” labels our enemy du jour–cue the two minute hate.
All war is exorcistic superstition. Only sociopaths support violence against human beings. But a war against demons–well, violence is the only alternative.
Sane, ethical people will not kill other people. But they will kill demons. That’s why demonization is the one necessary ingredient in all wars.

Imagine a statue of Bush on a pedistal with a rope around his neck and Sadam standing on the ground toppling him.
That’s what happened to the dumb ass !!!
