Irregular Times Diaries: Unfit DiscussionIn a time of the spring, old paths are obscured and new growth begins.
It seems that J. Clifford here at Irregular Times isn’t the only one who finds Ron Paul’s political philosophy bizarre and illogical. I found an interesting old article from the St. Louis Riverfront Times about Ron Paul’s attendance at a conference of politicians demanding that the United States withdraw from the United Nations.
The date of the article: July 11, 2001. Two months to the day before the attacks of September 11, 2001, Ron Paul was advocating that the United States pull out of efforts to cooperate with the other nations of the world. That doesn’t show the best of judgment, does it?
The writer of the article, Ray Hartmann, attended that conference as a journalist, and observed Ron Paul, among other politicians. Here’s what Hartmann observed about Ron Paul’s behavior at the time:
Presidential material? If you want another White House that’s a tad off the trolley, sure.
Liberals, be careful what you’re really saying when you praise Ron Paul.

Just out of curiosity, how is adhering to the Constitution “a tad off the trolley?” Americans are so used to fascists and socialists running the country for their own ends, they’ve forgotten the meaning and intent of their own Constitution, and react poorly when someone remembers that document. Libertarians have gotten short shrift for years, and now that Dr. Paul is a getting more press, he will be attacked as usual by those who fear him. We always attack what we fear: fear of things, fear of losing power, fear of not gaining power.

Who is Ray Hartmann, and why are we supposed to give a crap about his opinion of Ron Paul?
For that matter, who are YOU, and why are we supposed to give a crap about YOUR opinion of Ron Paul?

The person writing this clearly anti-American rant may in fact be a terrorist or an extreme Muslim fundamentalist — how can we know? Why would anyone want to make this kind of blatantly anti-American “news” available to the American public?
Please verify the authenticity of the news sources that you read. Be watchful out there!

Dr Paul is antifascist, that is enough to get this hardcore liberals vote and donations $300.00 so far! Stop war stop the police state! Wh cares about the rest deal with that after we’ve saved our republic and liberties. Peace.

Ron Paul is the most honest and decent man in all of Washington D.C.. If Dr. Paul is a “tad” off the trolley, the rest of the District of Criminals has experienced a full derailment. Every elected politician takes an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Ron Paul is the ONLY one who actual takes his oaths seriously. Everything Ron Paul is against IS unconstitutional. So, anyone railing against Ron Paul is against the Constitution. Personally, I want my rights and freedoms restored and the government out of my life and business, permanently. Communists and socialists hate Ron Paul. To me he is a breath of fresh air and is literally the ONLY real hope this country has left. Real Americans love Ron Paul.

It is always amazing to watch how people will pull anything out of thier hat to try and discredit Dr. Paul.
The most they can come up with is insane name calling, sort of the like the bully next door when you were a kid.
But I guess when a man is running for the President of the United States that has such a transparent record the only way to make news is to have a very creative imagination, as is the case with this website.

Don, how do you know “Ron Paul is the most honest and decent man in all of Washington D.C.”? Have you met them all? Is he also the very bestest lawn mower operator of them all?
My favorite bit of thinking you manage to drum up is “Everything Ron Paul is against IS unconstitutional. So, anyone railing against Ron Paul is against the Constitution.” In its circular beauty, it’s right up there with Lou Dobbs’ “If we reported it, it’s a fact,” and the popular Christian retort that if a religious idea makes no sense, it’s just a “mystery of faith” which leads us to admire Sweet Jesus all the more.
Yeesh. Ron Paul is just a guy. But you want to turn him into some kind of infallible messiah. That’s kind of freaky.

Unlike some others, I will not come in your ‘house’ and crap on your rug. I ask that other Paul supporters please focus on the issues and not personally denigrate bloggers who may disagree with him. Others, who come across this site may know nothing about RP, but will certainly not flock to his support with posts upon seeing posts filled with personal attacks. Now:
“Ron Paul’s simultaneous embrace of libertarianism and rejection of reproductive freedom was ‘oxymoronic’”: If one believes that human life begins at a certain point during pregnancy, that person must necessarily believe that all the rights offered to that life outside the womb should be applied to that life at that same point while in the womb. It is not inconsistent at all when viewed in that context.
“a tad off the trolleyâ€: If by ‘trolley’ you mean the group of bought-and-paid-for hacks that populate Congress, then I would be proud to vote for someone riding on a whole different set of tracks.
“not playing with a political deck of 52″: No, he is not a ‘politican’ in the typical, negative parlance. He does not do focus groups, talk in soundbites, or use the doublespeak that passes for politics these days. He is a statesman who focuses on the issues, answers the questions and rarely, if ever, does he call out his opponents by name.
“Presidential material?”: I think so, and hope you will consider him as well.
Peace be with you all.

Don Lockwood? That’s the main character in Singing In The Rain. So much for honesty.
As for this person’s comment, “Real Americans love Ron Paul,” what does that make the rest of us? Fake Americans? The illegal aliens Ron Paul is always going on about? Amerikans?

There is nothing off the trolley about wanting out of the UN…. The UN runs our schools these days and they brainwash our kids and control us by treaty.
I dont’ know a single person who wants us to stay in the UN.
And I know a lot of groups and people who DO.
Ron is THE most respected congressman on the hill, per Joseph Sobran.
Only liberals would discount the opposite side the abortion issue as being incongruous with liberty. After all, the fetus has no right to live, right?
He is the top candidate on the internet which makes this name-calling blog is irrelevant.

NH -
How does the United Nations run American schools? What techniques does the United Nations use to brainwash American children?
How can the United Nations control the United States by treaty, when treaties must be signed by the President and ratified by Congress?
If you know a lot of people who DO want the USA to stay in the United Nations, how can you then say that you don’t know a single person who wants us to stay in the UN?
The Ron Paul movement is getting further away from that trolley as we watch.

Oddly enough, Paul had been advocating that the United States pull out of efforts to cooperate with the other nations of the world for several years before 9/11. I think it shows an amazing amounf or good judgement.
I happen to agree with him that the empire-building is the main reason they’ve grown to hate us more than they hate each other.

The thing that really turned me off Ron Paul was the whole “property rights” bit. Yeesh.
So what about hobos? They have no property, so they have no rights?
