Irregular Times Diaries: Unfit DiscussionIn a time of the spring, old paths are obscured and new growth begins.
My friends who do not believe often bring up war as proof that God does not exist. How can a just and loving God allow wars to happen, with all their death and destruction? they ask. Well, I don’t know if you haven’t noticed before now, but death and destruction happen all the time. People die, things rot. It’s part of the circle of life. How they die is important, though. If everybody lives to old age and dies in bed, there’s no useful winnowing process. But if we have wars, the stronger of spirit and body survive, making us stronger. From the point of view of simple evolutionist survival, war does not make sense, because it reduces the number of the species. Evolution cannot explain why war is here. Only if we are living part of God’s plan to make us stronger does war make sense. War proves that God exists, because it shows that there is a plan larger than us, larger than we can understand.

God and evolution can co-exist. They are not mutually exclusive.
War exists because of:
Territorialism,
Nationalism,
Racism,
Politics

I always thought the meek were supposed to inherit the earth, and the God was the protector of the weak, the widow, the orphan. Didn’t Jesus say that right in the Sermon on the Mount?
But now we find out that God actually creates wars and send soldiers off to kill each other like zombies, no free will, because God has a preference for the strong, the bullies, the forcible, the abusive, the violent.
Who will save us from God?

Fallwell lives.
I guess, then, the attack on the World Trade Center was part of God’s plan to get rid of us weaklings in New York.

God gave Humans Free Will.
Humans (flesh/evil) voted for war, not God!

Um, could you explain what you mean by the “winnowing process” making us “stronger,” if you don’t mean it to be a reference to the process of evolution (which you deny).
And by the way, do you mean to imply that the Americans serving in Iraq (and getting “winnowed out” by God) are less strong than those of us who have stayed home?
I mean, is God really making the human race stronger by winnowing out Pat Tillman and leaving Justin Timberlake?

wow. ANOTHER HORRIBLE ARGUMENT MY FRIEND!
HOW…does it NOT make sense evolution wise? perhaps you should look into your text books and actually READ this time what the theory of Evolution is. It is about the BIOLOGICAL and ECOLOGICAL process of survival of the fittest…exactly what you explain to be about GOD. Evolution made humans have large brains in order to analyze and rationalize situations in order for their best benefit. I dont know about you, but id say that has worked, as we are the dominant species (with its consequences…ofcourse)
But also, we fight against each other…this is another biological trait. Dogs fight against dogs for territory, as do cheetas, heck, rats! The difference is that our thought proceses are more eclectic, hence, we thought of war.
So your two arguments so far…about the avocado and about war…HORRIBLE. I say, put down your keyboard, learn a bit more, become a bit more educated before you talk, if not your are just ignorance on a computer screen.
Arguing about a belief isn’t right, dont try to change others. Just live happy with yourself. If others believe different than you, but are great, caring people…WHO CARES?
and as I ended it in your other argument….
I guess since the war argument isnt conclusive…we’ll just have to have faith.

Give me conclusive scientific proof that a deity exists and I might take you seriously.

we have war becouse we can’t share. religion and spirtuality is nice, but when it gets down to last bit of food or resouses, people fight. particualy if there Is NOT enough to go around. we have always been this way, since way back in our evolutionary past, by the way. you think fighting over oil is bad, wait till we start fighting over water.

Nifty thing about religions and ideologies, we still have reasons to fight even when there IS enough to go around.
