Help! Help! I’ve been slimmed at Unity08

by @ 10:44 am. Filed under general

Yep, I have been boot from Unity08:

Now all of my previous messages look like this:

Yes, GP mass media will help…

[Unity Moderation Team: 2007-10-15: Deleted: davidfarrar, you have persisted in behavior that violates community guidelines; the content of your post has been deleted]

I guess my mistake was posting IrregularTimes’ video exposing Unity08’s financial shenanigans.

Apparently, there was more truth in that video than Unity08 could tolerate their own members from seeing.

  1. Bob Roth Says:

Mr. Farrar’s repeated violation of several community guidelines was the reason for his dismissal. These include, but are not limited to, misrepresentation and attempted discrediting of Unity08 in an effort to promote his own agenda/party, repeated posting of comments and topics that were off-topic (posted in the incorrect area of the web site), and deconstructive discourse related to the misrepresentation and attempted discrediting of Unity08.

  2. J. Clifford Says:

Attempted discrediting? Attempted discrediting?? Attempted discrediting?!?

At Unity08, which says it’s all about democracy, no one is now allowed to question whether Unity08 is credible?

    Shame on you, Bob Roth.

That’s a downright anti-democratic set of community guidelines Unity08 has arranged.

Here at IrregularTimes.com, we allow people to come on and write messages criticizing what we have to say, and questioning whether we are credible. We do that because we believe that credible messages are able to stand up to criticism.

By that standard, Unity08 is not credible. David Farrar doesn’t need to attempt to discredit Unity08 any more. Your own program of censorship has already discredited you.

  3. Jim Says:

    Dismissal? DISMISSAL?

A CEO “dismisses” someone. A King “dismisses” someone. A feudal lord “dismisses” someone. A Lieutenant Colonel “dismisses” someone.

A real “grassroots people’s movement” does not “dismiss” its members.

The rules for membership are as follows, to quote the Unity08 website:

“All U.S. citizens who are registered to vote — or who shall be legally eligible and pledge to register to vote — no later than June 1, 2008 — in any state (including territories) shall be eligible to be a Unity08 Delegate. Citizens who will turn 18 between June 1, 2008 and November 4, 2008, may also be Delegates if they certify their intention to vote and register by their state’s deadline to be eligible to vote.”

Yet you’ve decided to “dismiss” him and all his comments. Down the memory hole!

Dave, you can post as much as you like here in the Irregular Times diaries. Anyone can. Even Bob Roth can. Even if he “attempts” to “discredit” you. Go ahead, Bob Roth, I dare you. Sign up and debate the merits of Unity08 in a forum you can’t control. Can you handle real freedom, Mr. Roth?

I have no relationship with or knowledge of David Farrar other than reading his posts on Unity08. He’s pesky. But that’s what you get when you have a real “grassroots people’s movement.” I think we’ve just seen another piece of evidence that Unity08 has no desire to take those words and make them real.

And that is why your shiny plastic public relations movement will fail.

  4. Jim Says:

Confirmation that David Farrar has been “dismissed” as a member and delegate of Unity08…

Google’s cache of web page http://www.unity08.com/user/38444 for member #38444, David Farrar, as of October 11 2007:

    David Farrar Unity08 member #38444

Screen capture of current web page http://www.unity08.com/user/38444 for member #38444, David Farrar on October 15 2007:

David Farrar Unity08 membership and delegate status deleted October 15 2007

David Farrar’s membership and therefore his delegate status in Unity08 has been deleted. This is contrary to the Unity08 Rules.

A corporation running an election that will not follow even its own rules is very dangerous.

  5. Jim Says:

By the way, Unity08 Vice President Bob Roth, when will you answer my question asking for the terms of the gigantic loans providing hundreds of thousands of dollars to Unity08 from just three influential individuals? You agreed to answer my question months ago, but you haven’t written me a word about it.

  6. RED DAVE Says:

    CHALLENGE TO BOB ROTH:

According to the claims of David Farrar, mentioned above, your organization, which is trying to justify itself as a grassroots organization, has violated its own principles and the genral principles or organizational democracy.

Explain to us, please, why we shouldn’t dismiss you as a bunch of corporate shills?

    RED DAVE

  7. Ralph Says:

A couple more questions for you, Mr. Roth:

    1. A search of the Unity 08 website turns up the two words “community guidelines” together in only one context: the statement that David Farrar has violated them. What exactly are the Unity 08 “Community Guidelines?” Where are they listed? Through what process and by whom were they determined?

    2. What the blazes does “deconstructive discourse related to the misrepresentation and attempted discrediting of Unity08″ mean? Is there actually a prohibition on “deconstructive discourse” articulated in any set of Unity 08 community guidelines? And what’s this business about a discourse “related” to “misrepresentation” and “attempted discrediting?” How is this kind of convoluted, ambiguous formulation (which, by the way, you might actually need a “deconstructive discourse” to figure out) different in substance or style from vague, hedging formulations like Bush’s famous “weapons of mass destruction-related program activities?” How is this any kind of alternative to the dominant political dialogue you say you want to change? How is this anything but more of the same?
