Irregular Times Diaries: Unfit DiscussionIn a time of the spring, old paths are obscured and new growth begins.
Oh, dear Zoroaster wake me up! The ABC News presidential democratic debate, likely one of the last opportunities for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to earn the support of voters, should have been a lively event.
Instead, the first 45 minutes was spent on superficial nonsense like 1960s Weatherman bombings, who’s bitter, Bosnia, and disowned preachers, with followup questions.
Then, Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolous went hunting for inconsequential distinctions such as who, between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, thinks that Iran should not have nuclear weapons the most.
Help me! I want to care. I want to be motivated. I want to be active and a good citizen, but I have been struck by the ABC News hypno-mind-mister laser beam, which has caused me to hear the words coming out of Clinton’s and Obama’s mouths as if they are spoken in Czech.
Is there an antidote?

Outrageous. I’d forgotten how bad network TV, news in particular had become. Watching the questioners so full of themselves asking questions that have nothing to do with my issues nor America’s issue. I don’t watch reality TV, American Idol, etc. but in the middle of the debates I had the feeling I know what it’s like. No substance, mindless preoccupation with sensationalism, anything for a temporary rise. Stephanopholous is a joke but Gibson is barely a caricature of himself. Mom said if I don’t have something nice to say about someone to keep quiet. Gibson is a big fat jerk. Sorry Mom. We need to make America great. We can only do it by taking care of our people, our true resource. Povery, Health Care and Education, for the people. That will take care of our economy. With a strong economy the United States can reassert it’s position as the greatest county on earth and start taking care of our home, our Earth. Sniper fire, preacher clips and bull shit is what ABC brought to American’s homes. Believe me I won’t remember my password to sign up to post this message because I will work hard to never patronize ABC again.

If you don’t like what happened last night, the best action you can take is to cancel your cable television service.

Fire Stephanopolous and Gibson. Biased journalism has no place in America. ABC you should be ashamed - I will not view your network. There are other shows & networks. SHAME !!!

What did you think was biased? Did you think previous debates were biased?

Iroquois, you think that it’s a GOOD and SERIOUS question to ask about flag lapel pins? You don’t think that choosing a question about that - instead of President Bush’s admission that he approved a meeting to devise specific techniques of torture - shows ideological bias?

It wasn’t my question, jclifford, but it was probably a good and serious question to the voter who asked it.
As far as the torture issue, that’s hardly new, and there’s hardly a national or probably even a legal consensus about it–you can buy a conservative t-shirt that says “I’d rather be waterboarding”.
I find it amusing that you guys are so critical of the Islamists who don’t want the media to show Mohammed cartoons, but when it comes to your own holy Obama cow, you think the media should just shut up.
Funny you guys aren’t covering the other issues that were raised in the debate, for example, the candidate who said we would just suddenly pull out of Iraq without leaving any bases. That doesn’t strike me as being quite fair to the Iraqis or as protecting our vital interests in the region. That’s the same Jimmy Carter approach that proved so ineffective in that region before.
I would be more likely to agree to starting the troop withdrawal as a means to pressure the Iraqi government, because quite frankly that’s the only way there is going to be any movement to resolving the issues on their part.
The real issue in Iraq is private militias. For peace to work, there can only be one government, a government that uses its military to protect everyone.
