Check the Facts: Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital Existed Long Before Barack Obama was Born
The conspiracy theorists who just aren’t able to accept the fact that Barack Obama was indeed born in Hawaii are latching themselves onto a new claim they say “proves” a hoax. Here’s their new claim:
Obama born in hospital that did not exist yet
This I just found and it seems to be a smoking gun. There are all kinds of reports about fraud coming out, but this is a blatant error that frauders would easily miss!
“I just checked the official web site for Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital and according to the information there, the name of the hospital at the time of his birth should have been Kauikeolani Children’s Hospital. According to the web site the name didn’t change to Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital until Kauikeolani “Children’s Hospital merged with Kapi‘olani Maternity Home in 1978. So how could his official long form birth certificate that was generated in 1961 have the name of the hospital that wasn’t created until 1978?”
Wow. Look at all those hyperlinks! With so many “sources,” it must be true!
Or not. The first thing you should do if you want to see if it’s true is to check those links. Two of them connect to wikipedia articles defining the words “website” and “birth certificate.” A third link connects to a wikinvest encyclopedia article describing what a “hospital” is and does. Only one link connects to any information about Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital — and that link is to the Wikipedia page for that hospital. As we all know, crowdsourced Wikipedia pages often contain incorrect information.
Let’s check for some independent sources on this. How about a search through the world’s largest book archive, Google Books?
Here’s a result from 1955, American journal of obstetrics and gynecology, Volume 69:
Here are a few excerpts from Social service in Hawaii, a book by Margaret Mary Louise Catton that was published in 1959, two years before Barack Obama was born:
Here’s a reference to Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital in a Digest of court cases from 1934:
There’s even a court reference there if you want to look it up.
Clearly, Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital existed long before Barack Obama was born. No “hoax.”

Lefty Begone
in April 28th, 2011 @ 00:02Thanks for posting this. I myself was an adamant birther (someone who demanded to merely see the birth certificate, just as MSNBC’s Chris Matthews demanded) until this morning. Now I’m just on the fence. This issue over the name of the hospital has been confusing me. One theory contradicts another, etc., but this posting of yours actually negates both theories because it puts the claims of those theories in a different context. So thanks for the info!
Of course, Obama still isn’t eligible, because as the White House admitted a while back, he was born a British citizen (dual citizenship). According to many past court precedents, the SCOTUS has always ruled that people born with dual citizenship are not eligible to be president. Which is one reason I always tried to focus on that aspect of birtherism rather than the birth certificate itself.

in April 28th, 2011 @ 00:20I’m glad you found the posting helpful.
Barack Obama does not have dual citizenship, “Lefty Begone.” I challenge you to produce a document (or a direct link to a document) that shows Barack Obama has dual citizenship.

in April 28th, 2011 @ 00:37I don’t think documents exist that only serve the purpose of declaring someone has dual citizenship. Laws declare dual citizenship, not documents. The law that was in force when Obama was born is what matters, and that particular law was in effect from Dec 24, 1952, until Nov 13, 1986. It said that If you have 2 parents that are American citizens, then you are an American citizen at birth no matter the birth place. But if you have only one parent who is an American citizen (which is what is applicable to Obama) then the parent who is the citizen has to have at least 10 years’ residency in the USA, and 5 of those years have to have been after the age of 14. Obama’s mother was 18 when he was born. She would have to have been 19 when he was born in order for him to be natural born and eligible to be president.

in April 28th, 2011 @ 00:44One of Obama’s many websites, FightTheSmears.org, states:
“When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children. Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”
That’s Obama’s own website admitting it. Actually, his website is quoting it from FactCheck.org, but the quote is there at the bottom of one of the pages on FightTheSmears and they link it back to FactCheck.

in April 28th, 2011 @ 08:08Lefty,
Please provide a direct link to a primary source that supports your claim regarding the White House acknowledging Obama’s “dual citizenship.” A search of whitehouse.gov, which contains all White House statements, transcripts, and declarations, shows no such “acknowledgement” that Barack Obama has dual citizenship.
The website you do cite — Fight The Smears — is not the original citation for your quote. Those words were written by FactCheck.org. But that doesn’t matter — the words you cite state very clearly that Barack Obama DOES NOT HAVE dual citizenship, Lefty.

in March 2nd, 2012 @ 19:03Why can’t I find some bonified concrete facts about the hospital as to beginning date and ending date of operation. All I find is newspaper articles which supposedly report the hospital name and someones diary accounts. These are not facts.

in April 12th, 2012 @ 17:59Here is a link to the Hospital that says that the 2 hospitals combined in 1978. That means that the name on Obamas forged “Certificate of Live Birth” has the wrong name on it..This is from the hospitals web site in the “About Us” section. I guess they would know best!
