Health Care Reform: The Time Is Now!Isn't it funny how, just when health care reform legislation has a chance of passing, all of a sudden out of nowhere coordinated groups of lobbyists and spin doctors seem to come out of nowhere to talk about how Americans "just aren't ready" for the universal coverage that works so well in so many other countries around the world? Isn't it curious how distractions like the Stupak Amendment come out of the woodwork, attempts to derail the whole reform project with their insertion of poison pill provisions?
For 15 years, Americans have been watching the nation's health care system stretch farther out of reach for hard-working people. For 15 years, lobbyists have asked "Why the rush" and sought always to delay health care reform until next year, next year, next year. It's always "next year" when it comes to health care reform, isn't it? While we wait for "next year," the life expectancy of Americans remains at the low end for industrialized nations. This is not a coincidence.
Meanwhile, 45,000 Americans die each year because they lack health care insurance. What's 15 times 45,000? Too many! Not one more unnecessary death. Not one more year! For health care reform leading to universal coverage, the time is now. Declare your support -- now, before it's too late -- with a bumper sticker, a yard sign, a made-in-the-USA t-shirt or even a big old banner to hang out your dorm room window. We have them all here for you to get the word out.
