It’s imperative, if you want to understand what’s behind the latest fundamentalist religious push in America, to watch what fundamentalists DO, not primarily what they say.
A case in point, with a tip of the pen to Max Blumenthal in the April 26 edition of The Nation:
Tony Perkins, president of the powerful fundamentalist religious Family Research Council, paid David Duke — you know, white hooded robes, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, White Youth Alliance, National Association for the Advancement of White People, Republican Legislator — $82,000 for his mailing list.
It seems this fundamentalist religious leader knows exactly who butters his bread.
Ergh… So, I take it Adam and Eve were white and the Christian god made some other couple elsewhere to turn into the black/Asian groups?
Racism is so stupid. As if skin colour comes close to telling you anything about the genes of a person, let alone their attitudes and personality.
Unfortunately, HareTrinity, here in the USA (and everywhere else, for that matter…we have no monopoly on bigotry), old patterns of thought and behavior die a hard death. And, when we have a “religious” element that espouses fundementalist views, particularly in our southern states (but I can think of nowhere that is immune to this shit) we can expect this kind of agenda. And, frankly, I am grateful for the existence of this site…otherwise this bit of info would have never seen the light of day. That is REALLY the sad fact about life in America today. Socio-politically speaking, we seem to approach things with an attitude of “take three steps forward…now take two steps backward.” We’re doing good by exposing this stuff to the light of day, though…things that live under rocks don’t survive too long when exposed to the rest of the world.
