Mother Davis puts away her son’s toy soldiers out of fear that they might help Osama Bin Laden as she comments,
There are bombs and there are bombs. Yesterday, the right wing shouters on cable television and in the Republican blogosphere spent the entire day ranting and moaning about the latest terrorist attack: Bombings in New York City! Run! Scream! Expand the Patriot Act!
Well, when the smoke cleared, it turned out that these right wing pundits really didn’t have that much to shout about. It all amounted to nothing more than a window broken and part of a flower pot with a crumbled lip as the result of two over-sized firecrackers.
At the same time, 4 very real bombs were set off by suicide attackers in Iraq, killing 33 people, and maiming huge numbers more. Then, 14 bodies of Iraqis were found in a mass grave - executed. But, what did the Republican shouters have to say about those attacks? They either said nothing, or commented that things are getting better in Iraq all the time.
How are we to understand this contrast in right wing media attention? Well, the answer is obvious. Maybe there were only a few pansies injured in the Manhattan firecracker attack, but damn it, those were our pansies! The Iraqis weren’t “ours”, so they don’t count.
Who can blame the right wing media if they don’t cover news about Iraqis killing scores of their own people? I mean, it’s not as if the Republicans ever made a huge deal over Iraqis killing their own people, right?
Looking back through those old newspaper clippings,
Mother Davis
It is a time of fear in the face of freedom, a time for the widening of previous roads and the opening of new paths, a time of an emptying country and swelling cities, yet a time when these paths are mined by knowing algorithms of the all-seeing eye. It is the time of the warrior's peace and the miser's charity, when the planting of a seed is an act of conscientious objection.

It’s sad that so many countries are too full of themselves to realise that we’re all on the same planet.
Same species, too.
