I’ve mentioned before how the arch-fundamentalist American Family Association keeps sending me unsolicited emails about weird ideas like a cosmic destiny for evangelical Christians and moral outrage at make-believe talking bunny rabbits. The more emails I get from the American Family Association, the more bizarre this little cultish group of Christian extremists seems to be.
Yesterday, I got an email from the American Family Association in which they are promoting a new bumper sticker of theirs. This bumper sticker is part of the American Family Association’s campaign to attack freedom of marriage for all Americans. See, Donald E. Wildmon and the rest of the American Family Association leadership seem to think that, just because they’re Christians, they have the right to stop loving couples from getting married. Sadly, they call this anti-family agenda “moral values”. Hm. Looks like those moral values are at a special discount these days.
You can see the American Family Association bumper sticker here. At first it seems to be just an ordinary bumper sticker, but at a second glance, I realized that the bumper sticker’s verbal claims just don’t match the imagery that the bumper sticker uses.
Take a look for yourself: The bumper sticker claims that marriage is one man and one woman. However, what the bumper sticker shows as the model of a morally upright marriage is actually one man, one woman, and somebody else in the middle. What’s more, this third person appears to be caressing the buttocks of both the man and the woman! It seems that what the American Family Association really thinks is that marriage is between one man, one woman, and one mysterious small person.
Who is this third person in the polygamous marriage that the American Family Association is promoting? Why is he or she so short? Does Don Wildmon and his fundamentalist crew promote more than just buttocks fondling by this third person?

It is a reference to their long standing fertility right. One man + One Woman= One child or more.
The reasoning is that because gay people are biologicaly incapable of producing standard offspring, then it must be an abomination, and therefore outlawed. This is a standard argument amongst fundamentalists as I tend to make discourse with them, and I live with one! They have many correlations, and this is one.

Nope, this bumper sticker just reads:
One Man One Woman.
Grammatically, what that means is that one man is one woman.
Clearly, the American Family Association is promoting a change in the legal definition of marriage to apply only to autoerotic transexuals. I guess they’re more liberal than we thought.

You say we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for your husband, but he’s in Iraq, which was never a threat to the United States until Bush invaded! Iraq wasn’t behind the September 11, 2001 attacks, and didn’t have any weapons of mass destruction.

I write this at 9:45 on the evening of Memorial day 2009.
As a former military conscript whose Father faught in two world wars, whose brother died in one. I spent my early life being bombed back into the stone age by the Nazis in WWll, I feel that I am qualified to make response to your comments. Without belittling your faith in your husband or his sense of patriotism however misguided.
The facts are as stated. The war in Iraq is and always has been illegal. The military personnel at present under arms in Iraq are part of an occupation force acting under the direct orders of persons who subverted the constitution that your husband is sworn to uphold. If he volunteered for service, his duty should first have been to the constitution and not to somee misplaced sense of duty resurrected from history.
I feel sorry for you in your anxiety and loneliness, which is exacerbated by your misunderstanding and lack of knowledge, and information denied you by an inadequate education system and propaganda, which encourages people to run out and buy handguns for personal protection when all they really want, is an opportunity to kill someone. At least in the Army he may believe that shooting people is OK. In fact most deaths in war occur among civillians, NOT military combatants.
Ask yourself these questions.
Are we in danger of an act of aggression from Iraq?
Has ANY Iraqi force targeted American civilians in the US?
Are American servicemen protecting Americans in the middle east?
Or are American servicemen continuing to be maimed or die to support a feudalistic society which does not recognize the rights of women like you, to protest or disagree with men like me?
Education is a wonderful thing. Women all over the middle east are yearning for the freedoms that we all enjoy here. But you are content to have your husband take part in a violent war of aggression to keep women like you subjugate to a feudalistic regime supported, by the extreme right wing of the Republican party, who will be the only people to benefit from this disgraceful and unwinable war.
On this Memorial day, I pray that your husband and all the other husbands, wives, fathers, sons and daughters return safely to their homes and that yours and their children will NEVER have to fight again.
