Bush picks and strums while New Orleans Drowns: A Matter of Priorities

Discourse.net finds this picture of Our Dear Leader:

By Tuesday morning, 80% of New Orleans was under water. On Tuesday, Bush took a ride to San Diego and noodled around on a special presidential guitar especially prepared for and given to him as a thank you for stopping by.

That’s the caring deficit: Bush strummed while New Orleans drowned, making him a real American Nero. But it’s not just an image problem. It’s a priorities problem. National guard troops, whose job it is to respond to natural disasters, were siphoned off to fight a war, leaving us more vulnerable at home. The remaining troops were underequipped. Dollars were siphoned off from flood control efforts to add more guards to watch out for terrorists armed with nail clippers. All this despite the Bush administration being warned repeatedly about the threat to well over half a million Americans.

George W. Bush is not to blame for Hurricane Katrina. But he set his priorities a long time ago: wars of choice are more important than the welfare of people at home. The people of New Orleans suffer as a result.

Think about it… As we’ve seen with hurricane Katrina, disasters can strike at any time. Where should a New Orleans family move to avoid a natural disaster? There are so many acts of God: a California earthquake, Washington volcano, Mississippi flood, North Dakota blizzard, west coast tsunami, Oklahoma tornado, Colorado avalanche, east coast Noreaster, etc. PapaCool likes South Dakota more and more!

Fair do’s, I think that’s a good thing for him to do while folks who know what’s going on get moving. I’ve worked disasters including going into Biloxi after hurricane Camille as part of a MACAP team, and the last thing in the world that’s needed are “dignitaries” who need led around, stroked, photo opped, and dealt with with “appropriate defference.” Odd, though, a lot of the “dignitaries” are more sensitive and compassionate than their staffs. Even Republicans. Yeah! Really! Surprised me, too!

My wife and I are Ham operators and we’ve been passing a lot of “Health and Welfare” traffic through the Red Cross. A lot of it is pretty heart wrenching.

Wednesday my wife goes down with Civil Air Patrol for two weeks to a month. I volunteered as well, we had to see a doctor, and she won’t let me go. Says my health issuesmight “divert assets” from the effort. She cleared my wife but told her she should stay with me. I made my fourth pun and she said “You need a rest, ma’am, go down and do what needs done.” My wife said there will be other people we know looking in on me and they have her permission to yell at me and swat me if necessary. The doctor says she wants to be on the list, too. The swatting part, anyway.

Way to do it, Sarge…we’re organizing a shitpot full of relief supplies out here in Northern California. We understand that kind of devastation. We go through it about once every ten years when we get the floods. But what I’m seeing defies belief, let alone description. If you want to contribute, they need Ready-to Eat food, Water, baby wipes, water, medicine, water, toothbrushes, clothes, water, Blankete…did I mention water?

Arrgghh! How the heck we elected and relected such a loser is really beyond me. Thanks Bush for proving me right about what a loser you are!

When 911 happened, people said 2 days for relief efforts was too late. Now New Orleans has a hurricaine and it takes 5 days to get aid and we had notice of the disaster? Nice double standard. I have a good idea what Bush can do with that special presidential guitar!

  5. Lyricist says:

Hey, what song did Bush sing?

    Stormy weather?
    Riders on the Storm?
    Cry me a river?
I’ve got your love to keep me warm?
    Pennies from Heaven?
