End Times Accountability

This week’s pointless panic in New York City about terrorist attacks that never came got me thinking about the right wing’s curious dependence upon predictions of attacks by swarms of evildoers. It seems that the right wing radical Republican fringe in America is never content unless it can say with a straight face that America is about to be destroyed by wicked enemies…any…minute…now.

As a case in point, there’s the right wing evangelical web site that calls itself End-Times. The End Times, for those of you who have never had the fear of God shoved down their throats, is what some sects of Christianity focus on as the period of history during which God will come down from the heavens, rescue his true followers, and burn everybody else to a crisp, destroying Washington D.C., America, and the entire Earth. To right wing Christians, the destruction of the Earth will be a good thing, as the creator of the End-Times web site explains:

“Remember, things will continue getting more and more worse on the earth as the rapture nears ! … But for those of us that are saved – Wow end-time news is Great News !! It means we will see Christ very soon, and if we kick the bucket before he returns, we will be with him forever anyway, so we win both ways !”

Massive destruction of human life makes these right wing evangelicals so happy on the inside that they’re constantly predicting that the final destruction of America is going to happen any time now. On July 9, for instance, the End-Times web site predicts that America will hopefully suffer a devastating terrorist attack “in the next 90 days”. A mysterious Israeli intelligence agent known only as “Aviv” is quoted as saying that, in this 90 day period, terrorists will “hit six, seven, or eight cities simultaneously to show sophistication and really hit the public.” Aviv is further quoted as explaining, “They want to send a message to rural America: ‘You’re not protected. If you figured out that if you just move out of New York and move to Montana or to Pittsburgh, you’re not immune. We’re going to get you wherever we can and it’s easier there than in New York.”

90 days, huh? Well, jeez. 90 days from July 9 is just about right now. Time’s almost up! Those terrorists had better hurry if the End-Times prediction is to be taken seriously.

And what has the End-Times web site had to say about the approaching deadline for their prediction? Nothing much. They’ve just gone and issued new predictions. They’re now saying that a “nuclear hell storm” is going to be unleashed by Al Quaida against at least seven cities this very month. The End-Times writer says that the attack is confirmed in a secret communique. “The communiqué, dated May 30, was intercepted by CIA officials and remains on the Global Information System database that is accessible only to government officials with high-security clearance.”

Well that explains how the writer for the End-Times web site got the information. I have a suspicion that it’s George W. Bush who secretly writes for End-Times.

Isn’t the “we’ll go to heaven if we die anyway” logic the type used by Muslim extremists to justify all the war they had around the middle East before 9/11?

i guess these people just love to be WRONG. if you keep up-dating maybe someday you hit the jackpot. when the dates keep going by, WRONG again, don’t it make you wonder what else they are WRONG about? like who will get saved.
i’m just supposing here, but, suppose these assholes all feel the hell-fire and guys like me feel the rapture. what a kick in the pants that would be for the end times crowd.
when you just make up things like “the rapture” it’s hard to believe anything, especially when you are always proved WRONG.
if i were a terrorist, i would look high and low for the end times gang and try like hell to make a part of their prediction come true.
